About the Author

I live in New England with my young family. I'm a lover of fictional romance and enjoy how you can be transported from the here and now to a story, where the characters aren't just strangers but rather friends. Enjoying a book is one of the greatest pleasures in the world.

I won't rehash the story line, since you can read that in the book blurb. I enjoyed the story, especially because it was about adults and not 18-20 year olds. I like reading the new adult genre, but feel that it is taking over the e-book world. Every once and a while, I need to read about people closer to my age! That being said, I didn't love this book. I felt like there were multiple problems with this book. First, the editing. Not only were there many typos that were homophones, not picked up by spell check (i.e., to/too, baring/bearing, etc) but words that were spelled correctly but just not the right word (i.e., loon/look, etc). Several times, I caught where the author must have changed how she wanted a sentence to read, but the original sentence was still there, too. So, you got two versions of the same thought within the same two sentences. That is sloppy editing. You need a better editor, better beta readers, or slow down and really read over your drafts. Second, I felt like the story moved too fast. There was no build up to their chemistry or why they were falling for each other. They met, they argued, and then, all of a sudden, they were sleeping together. This coming from a man, a father, who stated several times that he had never looked to get married again. I have a hard time believing he would want his kids to get close to someone until he was sure that they were going to be together for a while. It didn't fit into the character, in my opinion. Third, and this is something the author may or may not have any control over, I think something happened when it was formatted for the Kindle. There were no spaces to indicated that scenes were switching between POVs or places. I could follow along, but it was annoying.Read more ›

Oh dear. I hate to say it, but this book was such a disappointment for me. I just didn't enjoy it. I liked the very beginning, but it was pretty much downhill from there.

Mae was nice and I liked her for the majority of the book. She's very sweet and lovely, which just translated into her being a pushover towards the end of the book. Events happen, which I won't specify in order to keep this spoiler-free, and she's just kinda spineless about it. It really irritated me.
Seth inspired a mix of different emotion from me. Initially I liked him, he was a good Dad and he was so sweet and doting with Mae. Then the events happen I mentioned previously, and he p*ssed me off majorly. He did a complete 180, and acted like a massive a**hole. Which would be okay because people make mistakes, but then he never really made up for it. Which meant he stayed a massive a**hole in my head, and this completely overshadowed any warm, fuzzy feelings I may have had.

Mae and Seth's relationship moves very quickly. They have a very strong sexual chemistry and it seems to override their common sense entirely. You'd think Seth would be a bit more circumspect about dating because of his young, impressionable kids. Everything about the speed of their relationship had me shaking my head. At first, I enjoyed the love scenes, they were intense, passionate and sweet. But then I just got bored of them, I found myself skimming them because they were copious and too repetitive.

Overall, I found this book very tedious. It took me a while to read it because I just didn't want to anymore, but I was determined! More than once I made a note for my review, saying that it was overly sweet.

This this got worse as it went on. Typos abound, but pushing that aside, I was having a hard time understanding the attractiveness of any of these characters.

Seth is a widower with three children; Mae is new town and a nurse and she rents the apartment that is attached to his house. Relationship ensues; steamy love scenes.

The overly written love scenes were ridiculous. At one point, the author writes "he continued his voyage to her hidden valley." WHAT?? Are we talking about ranch dressing here????

I hated how their fight was "resolved" -- he basically treats her like crap in public and kicks her out her apartment in front of all of their friends and in a bar -- and there was very little discussion between the two of them. And the closing line of the book made no sense to me.

I'm not sure I'll read the others in the series and the characters that were introduced didn't seem sufficiently interesting enough to warrant purchase of the other books. Heck, at least this one was free.

Twice in the book the love interest, a grown man, calls her a whore and accuses her of sexually deviant behavior. Yes, people lose their tempers, but when a man yells at you and accuses you of having a threesome simply because you had two friends over and then has the gall to tell you he has an erection that's somehow *your fault*, you run for the hills, not have sex with him.

Then at the first disagreement, he calls you a shore and accuses you of keeping something from him so you can 'get your rocks off' and have him go down on you- in front of at least fifty other people, you don't shrug and say you deserved it. He's a grown man with three children and there's no excuse for acting like that. I know many people with an Irish temperament (the excuse used in the book) and none act like that.
