I have seen every episode on MOJO, recorded them all and am STILL buying this DVD for the bonus features.
...For a newer DVD than #1, with MORE features than season #1 AND cost 5 bucks less?? what are you waiting for get this series!!.. if only for the Germany October fest and New Years NYC pub Crawl!
Yes, I agree. It may be a bit offensive, but the Japanese have their fair share of "crazy" TV shows. And the show really is entertaining -quite funny. Everyone enjoys it when cultures clash (in good fun) and the (happy) sparks fly.
The host and his crew explore Junmai Daiginjo, which is premium sake made from sakamai (sake rice) polished to at least 50%, sometimes to as much as only 23% remaining. The viewer is introduced to nama sake (raw/unpasturized) and nigori (cloudy) sake. All of which should be stored in the refrigerator away from light and consumed while they are still young. Koshu 古酒 is explored. This sake, on the other hand, has been aged. Daruma Masamune, for example, is delicious but costs $170 per 720ml bottle. The crew visits a sake brewery and does a good job explaining the basics of making sake. The viewer learns about rice, koji, yeast, and the importance good quality water. The program is very good for two reasons: 1) The material is factual and accurate. 2) The presentation is good entertainment.
