I have read some time travel romances, and this one really stand out.
It’s been a long time since I had read a one-sided view book, it added more mystery about William Payne.
The heroine is of course, the usual woman coming from the future, trapped back in time. But in this story, it is not about this journey, but what she became once she realized she won’t be able to return.
The author via some flashbacks or memories shared explains throughout Penny’s story how she reacted and managed after she understood she was lost in the past.
But here, it is more about her encounter with a pirate, a pirate she studied about when in her time.
I loved how true and real Penny appeared, she is far from perfect but her reactions and actions were understandable, she has certain knowledges but no control on the events unfolding around.
She is a good woman, she has mourned her previous life, thought she could get some confort but with the wrong persons so she withdrew from society too wounded and afraid to be scolded again.
But when she finds a man in need of her help, she does not run away, even if she fears he can hurt her.
She adapted awesomely to her new way of life ( I’m sure i would have become a puddle of mess in the same circumstances ), but in her inner core, she is still a 21st century woman, she swears like one as it is part of her, despite her knowledge, she is far from perfect and still use wrong terms, has to think to find the appropriate words, it does not come all natural.
It was amazing story about two lost persons, as if fate has its say and choose them. They have a lot on their plate, getting to know another, then trust to be able to move forward or languish and lost more than expected.
I hope to read more by Mrs Cat Caulberg in the future.
