I received an arc copy in return for an honest review
We first met Ben in college going to see his advisor because he isn’t sure where he is in life – all of his friends know but not him. As he sits outside his advisor’s office he hears a girl crying, he can’t help but listen to how she is in a bad situation. When the girl exits the office they have a small confutation but then she leaves quickly but in the small moment she inspired Ben. He names her the “crying girl”, he looks for her all over campus but unfortunately he never finds her.
Several years later Ben is back at his advisor’s office, once again he over hears a conversation between the “crying girl” and his advisor. This time he is prepared when he meets up with her. Their brief encounter once again leaves him inspired and touched by her. This is where the story takes a turn – I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to finish this book, but I do continue to read because the story is amazing and very well written.
We now meet Charlie also known as the “crying girl”. Charlie has a daughter Oliva who she calls “Ollie”. Ollie has leukemia and she had made a wish to learn how to make a movie so she can leave her mom a gift when she is gone. Ben is a film maker and is asked to grant that wish for Ollie. At first he declines the request because of past experiences with death. Then he has a chance meeting with Ollie and Charlie, and he falls for both girls and can’t deny either one of them anything.
Ben starts on a long road to help both Charlie and Ollie in any way he can. He brings happiness to Ollie by being a great friend and teaching her about making films. He teaches Charlie that she doesn’t have to do everything herself and there are people she can depend on, including a wonderful cast of characters that are Ben’s friends but also becoming Charlie’s too.
Ollie experiences many setbacks during this book but so does Charlie and Ben. When past loves, insecurities and everyday events happen it puts a strain on the budding relationship between Charlie and Ben.
This book will have you crying but also leave you with warm and fuzzy feelings that will last and leave you happy that you read this book. Don’t let the subject of sickness and death scare you away because 3 Wishes are granted and you will be glad they were.
He was feeling down when his 2 buddies were now married and he had no one. But Isabelle told him his time would come. Fate has a way of helping that along. Charlie was so used to doing everything by herself. Her family throwing her out and Ollie's dad walking away she was by herself to raise Ollie. When Ben came along she really didn't know what to do. She never had anyone that stayed around so she was kind hesitant. But Ben stepped up to the plate so to speak. He himself was nervous especially with Ollie being sick but he was there for both of them. It was beautiful to see how he just stepped in and took care of both of them. He now saw the world in Ollie's eyes and all that he took for granted. Something as simple as going outside or even to a restaurant was something this little girl had to deal with and worry about. Three Wishes is a story that will grab you from the first page and not let go until the last word. I could not put this book down. A very high tissue alert. Some sad tears and many happy tears.
I was sorry to see this series end but so happy for Ben to meet his soulmate plus one.
