However the mysterious homeless man continues to pop up in the story and all kinds of interesting things keep happening. No matter where Ladden places the carpet in his store it somehow moves around from place to place. Jasmine just happens to show up in the very bar that is owned by some of Ladden's relatives. Most curiously is the set of billboards that go from asking the city to re-elect the governor to proclaiming Ladden's love for Jasmine all over them. To a freak storm that traps Jasmine in Ladden's store for a few hours. Will Ladden have the chance to win the woman of his dreams or is it too late. And in the end what ends up being his third wish?
I've read and enjoyed a few of Stephanie Bond's stories and this one didn't disappoint. If you like Stephanie Bond books this might be up your alley.
Ladden is an antique dealer in Sacramento, CA, with a secret crush on Jasmine, the ambitious interior designer, who buys a lot of stuff from him. However, Jasmine girlfriend of current governor of California. Ladden knew his infatuation can never go anywhere. Jasmine doesn't even know he's interested. Even if she does, she's not going to fall for some junk dealer and give up being California's First Lady. Then Ladden opened his latest acquisitions... an antique rug... and an old copper lamp. By rubbing the lamp, he unwittingly unleashed a genie, who will grant him three wishes, not that he believe such malarkey! But when his two major wishes came true, he started to believe... but there are severe consequences to his wishes... As he attempts to deal with the aftermath, he is prepared to do anything to make her happy. But the genie has some other ideas...
You really should read this. It's LOL and even ROFL funny at times. If you like rom-coms, you really should read this book.
This is a fairly typical rom-com, one based on the story of Aladdin and his magic lamp. Naming the main characters Ladden and Jasmine was a bit much, and I didn't find their characters to be quite developed enough. The ending is sweet and predictable, as well as a little bit over-the-top. Three stars.
I also thought the play on names was cute, given everyone's knowledge of Disney's Aladdin, but while I appreciated that this was like the adult, modern day version, with some allusion to the version set in ancient times, the names were kind of a distraction (as I automatically "corrected" the the main character's name every time I read it), and thinking of beloved childhood characters and sex was a little weird for me.

Did a good job combining love and fantasy.
