Something a lot of authors are afraid to do is tell you that you need to work with the ego, that simply surrendering to "spiritual will" is more than likely to allow your habitual programming and lower order impulses to just take over. I suppose if you are really disciplined and can dedicate hours a day to silent meditation, or hit such a low point that the doors of the source suddenly open to you, which can happen.... otherwise I would take a more balanced approach to the spiritual journey. Real willpower is required in most cases, since a lot of people driven toward spiritual self help books in general are not happy, well adjusted people with a large social circle and a full life.. they may come to these books because they feel empty or do not have a perfect life, and have genuine issues with their ego programming. Bottom line, undoing habitual programming is like learning any new skill, like say field stripping a weapon... it's all about repetition, repetition, repetition. (called "conscious willpower" in this book) It helps to apply your thoughts in the real world to see real world results too, not just have it be entirely mental like 'the secret' would suggest.Read more ›
