another amazing piano trio

What a great little band. Amazing interplay by three musicians that seem to anticipate each other with uncanny consistency. This is my first listen to Jean-Michel Pilc. I was familiar with Francois Moutin's playing, having heard him in another band at Jazz Standard in NYC. I have an Ari Hoenig CD as well, but it's clear that these three belong together. They're already a match for the superb Brad Mehldau trio. If you love the interactive piano trio construct pioneered by Bill Evans and marched forth by Keith Jarrett, get this CD.

On a souvent reproché à Jean-Michel Pilc de tomber dans la démonstration technique avec une certaine froideur et un manque de musicalité. Rien de cela ici !
Les thèmes proposés sont relativement courts mais tous très bien inspirés. Les climats, les couleurs, les formes présentés par ce trio sont très intéressants.
Le trio est très homogène et les musiciens interagissent parfaitement. Moutin et Hoenig épaulant merveilleusement bien Pilc.
La moitié des compositions sont signées Pilc, Moutin et Hoenig et sont des improvisations libres. Mais on retrouve également quelques compositions de Jazzmen célèbres (Giant Steps de Coltrane, Nardis de Davis, Think of One de Monk...)

Bref, un opus que je recommande chaudement.
