Grown up in war- and postwar Europe, it was like coming home. But sometimes the American cook might need to substitute a similar item on hand. Cooking with what you got is not the same as poor!.

Does just what I wanted: what to do with left overs and/or an overstocked fridge! The "Year-round vegetable soup" recipes make delicious soups that can be stored frozen and are still wonderful a week or so later.

I like the book, but the first thing I had to do was to go online and print out a metric conversion chart, as a lot of the recipes use metric measurements. Also, the book was written in England, and some of the recipes call for ingredients that I have never heard of, but that I think are very well known in the U.K. I think the title of the book says it all - it's a book that will help me not waste food, thereby saving $$$.

The book has some good ways to use leftovers. It uses a lot of British terminology and metric measurements. Thanks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing little book
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 19, 2012
This is an amazing little book, not only does it give you ideas on what to do with all your left overs it gives tips on shopping to avoid waste and basic cookery methods on a whole host of basic kitchen skills, basic recipes and gives you the run down on what you should have in your larder, freezer etc to knock up a nourishing meal from what you have left or from scratch. Americans generally do more with their leftovers than we Brits, they save and utilize the last scrap of everything.... in this economic climate its something we all need to learn.

I made cauliflower cheese using the recipe in this book which was lovely but there are thousands of books with that in, I just wanted to test it out as I made the shepherds pie and it was way too much tomato (even my husband commented on the tomato) and he normally eats anything!
