Sass Collier and her lover, Clay Rocha, have spent most of their lives in the distant colony world of Mahina where they have struggled to survive and make the barren world more habitable. But they have never forgotten Earth, the world where they were born and then exiled from in a desperate diaspora over a hundred years before when it became uninhabitable due to climate catastrophes. Finally, they have the means to return. They expect to find a mostly destitute planet. Instead, they discover a surprising resilient but almost entirely hostile society controlled by some of the nastiest and most ruthless despots they have ever encountered. They thought life on Earth was dangerous before they left, but that was trifling compared to what they must now face.
Long time followers of Ms. Booth’s work will find this book a special treat as it begins the integration of her Calm Act/Feral America series with the Thrive stories. For those who have never read her works, they will find it to be an excellent place to be introduced to her wonderful imagination and storytelling prowess. It provides enough background on both of those series to understand what has previously happened while furnishing a non-stop adrenaline rush of action on a down-the-rabbit-hole twisted earth which will still seem eerily familiar.
