Through the Past, Darkly (Big Hits Vol. 2) was originally released in September 1969, and is the second compilation album of hits by the Rolling Stones, following Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass). Through the Past made a huge splash on both sides of the Atlantic, reaching #2 in both the U.S. and UK. The album includes numerous Stones classics including Jumpin Jack Flash, Let s Spend The Night Together and Honky Tonk Women. The packaging stays true to the original layout, with its trademark octagonal-shaped album cover.

The album is full of hits and basically it is a Rock & Roll album. My favorite song from this album is “2000 Light Years from Home” which is a spaced out trippy Sci Fi Psychedelic Rock song. The album is a bit on the dark side and psychedelic. Some of these classics are not available in any other album and that is more reason to purchase this one. It is a travel in to the memory lane back to how and why Stones became a super group. This is where Mick Jagger style of singing and songwriting established itself as a phenomenon in Rock music.
It has the best tracks of the mid-to late 70's and some of them are my all time favorite Stones songs.
Paint It Black, Ruby Tuesday, never sounded better. I love the fact that they used the octagonal shaped album cover.
It's exactly the same as the original version I had when it first came out...if my memory hasn't failed me. (yes, I am older than dirt ;) )
And the clear, translucent vinyl is just a bonus and probably will end up being a collectors item one day,
If your a casual fan, or a hard core fan then you owe it to yourself and by this vinyl copy. Now!!! Don't wait... do it!!!!!!!
(P.S. I read where one reviewer said there copy had a typo for Ruby Tuesday (Runy Tuesday), mine doesn't have this so if they do they better hang on to it. That one will be worth big bucks I'm sure!)
Through the Past Darkly is even better than its predecessor, showing the Stones as accomplished in a range of musical styles as the Beatles. A look at the track listing tells you all you need to know, this is one hell of an album. However, one can quibble with the abkco 2002 reissues in that there was a lost opportunity for a superior edition – a booklet perhaps, and certainly some extra tracks. The Stones themselves are far more generous with their own label’s reissues – the recent Sticky Fingers for example. By comparison, abkco have been stingy. Haven’t they made enough out of the Stones yet? The music on this CD is magnificent, but one star off for abkco’s meanness.
