Pedals are plastic, but have a heavy weight to them and feel absolutely solid. The brake mod goes amazingly far for realism. Honestly, I have used/owned a couple of wheel setups with load cells and this matches them at the very least. If properly adjusted, the brake mod feels like an actual brake pedal. You will have slightly better performance with top of the line load cell pedals perhaps, but for this price point you won't get one that is noticeably better. The throttle, clutch, and brake pedal all have different resistances from each other. They are not adjustable (aside from the brake) but you can feel a difference, and all three feel like real world pedals. They also allow for you to modify the pedal face placement (left or right, and with the throttle, also up or down) and most aftermarket car pedal faces will actually bolt to them. So you can get some that suit the size of your feet better if you desire.
FFB is very strong. I had to turn it down in fact as at times it would actually start to pop my wrists and shake the rig. At 50% it's still amazingly strong. When you get it fine tuned you really feel everything. Forza 6 on the other hand, at no fault of the wheel's this is not the case at all, but I am not reviewing Forza 6 so the reason I bring that up is if you play it exclusively, you'll want to wait for Turn 10 to adjust on their end. Their wheel support right now is awful so if you get it and play, and the wheel underwhelms or makes the car uncontrollable, that is the fault of Forza. It works perfectly with Project Cars, also have tested it with iRacing and Assetto Corsa on PC but seldom use either so I didn't go in depth. Seemed at least on par with Project Cars.
Also, you WILL need a rig of some sort with this. Even if just a wheel stand. It has clamp attachments and bolt on points as well, but the FFB is way too strong for just using on your lap or a TV tray or something. I have a full on sim rig and like I said, on full power it would literally shake it like mad and actually would pop my wrists to the point it felt like they'd break. That's not an exaggeration, it really is that powerful. So don't even bother getting it unless you have a rig, will build/buy one or at the very least get a good wheel stand.
I have no doubt Turn 10 will fix their wheel compatibility issues. This isn't the only wheel they have problems with. Literally any wheel with FFB is almost unusable with it. So again, don't judge this wheel off of their terrible support of wheels. But for now, if you play Project Cars or the above mentioned PC sims, this wheel has no equal right now. Not even my Fanatec (that went back as it was within return range) could compare to it.
Three stars based on friends' experiences with working wheel sets - they really like it - and my disappointing experience; I don't like it
UPDATE - 2/14/16 - Support did contact me. A pretty archaic system. They want you to include a copy of your invoice, a picture of the serial number on the servo, and a VIDEO of the wheel malfunctioning. Even though the problems described are obviously familiar to them already, they want to make it as difficult as possible for you.
So I hooked up the wheel and it actually worked.
I found that if you unplug the power outlet and the usb after you turn the XBox off it seems to help.
When I want to play I plug in the power outlet, then the USB. Oddly, after I plug in the USB the wheel automatically turns the XBox console on. The problem isn't as much a connection issue as it seems to be a calibration issue. Sometimes the center wheel strip stops at 4 o'clock. When that happens the wheel won't operate. It's when the center wheel strip calibrates at 12 o'clock is when the wheel works. When the wheel doesn't calibrate correctly, I turn the XBox off and start again. The past few days it has actually calibrated correctly the first time on a few occasions, but no more than 3 attempts to get it to work. When it does work it is a great little wheel. I'm upgrading to 2 stars because it is working sometimes. For the money spent these problems should not exist.
The wheel would not connect to the console. After going to the support page for Thrustmaster I saw a "USB reset" fix. As simple as leaving the wheel plugged into the console, turning the console off, unplugging the power cord, plug the power cord back in, power up .the console, start the game. And it worked. For the first day and a few races.
Now it's day two. Late afternoon. I have spent the entire day doing the "USB reset" trying to get the wheel to connect. No such luck. The wheel goes through the calibration thing. It seems to connect. I can que the game from the main menu using the A button on the wheel. Then when the game intro is loading the two lights on the wheel start flashing. Wheel does not respond.
Seriously? Why would a product made for XBox One and is a hard wire connection via USB not connect to XBox One?
Since the last firmware update was September 2015 I believe that the issue is not in the firmware but in the manufacturing end. Some of the reviews indicate that the problem was sometimes solved with replacements. This leads one to suspect that there is a bad batch or batches of units. Who knows if this has been corrected in China or if it is a sporadic problem.
Sent an email to Thrustmaster support on 2/6/16. We'll see how they are.
This review may be revised again depending on results. Either way.
2/7/16 UPDATE- Reinstalled the drivers on the wheel. Nothing changed. Contacted Microsoft support and they are well aware of the Thrustmaster TX connection issues. They say it is a Thrustmaster issue and not on the Microsoft end.
2/8/2016 UPDATE - Third day and no response from support yet. No support on weekends maybe? I'll give them one more day.
