I bought this to use in Elite Dangerous and it's freaking amazing. Very comfortable, the base is solid and doesn't wiggle/move no matter how violent I am with the sticks. My ONLY complaint would be that it could use a few more buttons on the Joystick, like where your thumb comes down on the support, and maybe a pinky button. But for 45 dollars you just cant beat it. Using Voice Attack to fill the gaps works great.

Great so far but -1 star for ergonomics while connected. Would have only knocked off .5 stars but can't.

I got this to play Elite:Dangerous. I replaced my old Logitech Elite joystick so that I could have a thrust controller and the only separate TC I could find was over 100 bucks, so I opted for this.

I've only had a chance to briefly play using this so this review will mainly be about my observation of the product itself.

It was easy to install on windows 7 but the instructions weren't really clear, nor does it come with drivers. When I plugged it in, the OS recognized it, but only as a generic joystick. I downloaded the driver from the Thrust Master website, deleted the generic driver, unplugged it, installed the driver and config GUI, plugged it in and it was good to go.

Buttons buttons buttons, this thing is full of them. 14 to be exact (tho two aren't recognized on the PC). All but three are easily reached with minimal hand adjustment and it will obviously take a while getting used to which is which before remapping them to the various games where needed. (Hint, open up the TM control panel and click Properties, then get an idea what button is what number). There's a default mapping in Elite:Dangerous but it can use some tweaking.

As for the option of playing with controllers connected vs disconnected, unless you have very narrow shoulders and a small frame it's better separated. Each of them are pointed dead straight parallel to each other and are too close together to be comfortable for me. Think of a regular keyboard vs an ergonomic keyboard. This puts the joystick in an awkward position for your hand to fit the ergonomic grip without contorting your hand into position you end up twisting it to the left (which in most games is the rudder control).

It's best separated at about shoulder width (or wider and there's plenty of wire) where you can turn the base in a bit which makes your hands settle into a more natural and comfortable position. Again, think of an ergonomic keyboard. Orientation connected is like this "||" and when separated you can adjust it to be more like "/ \" this.

There's also a dial on the bottom of the joystick where you can adjust the resistance of the joystick which is nice. Factory setting was fine for me, but its nice to be able to easily adjust it w/out having to replace springs.

All in all I'm happy with it and the 4 star instead of 5 is due to it being unplayable for me while they are connected together (they come unconnected in the package).

This was a semi-medium selling point for me as it's easier to move around as one unit. BTW, they don't clip together and you have to attach them with two screws. There is an Allen wrench on the bottom of the joystick in a little clip retainer.

Logitech vs Thrustmaster in Star Citizen: Arena Commander

This review compares the "Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Flight Stick" and the "Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick" specifically in the context of Star Citizen: Arena Commander

At this point in the development of Star Citizen I don't recommend buying any kind of stick or HOTAS (hands on throttle and stick). Currently keyboard and mouse are more fully optimized. You can pilot and dogfight more precisely with a mouse than with a stick. They are however working to make sticks and full HOTAS setups a better option. So if at some point in the future you're trying to decide between the Thrustmaster and the Logitech here's my thoughts.

Comparing just the sticks, I prefer the Logitech. First thing that stands out is the base is heavier and wider. I never tipped the Logitech off of any of its feet when I was pulling back hard or anything like that. But I did with the Thrustmaster. Also there are more buttons for your thumb on the Logitech and they are in better positions and they are more satisfyingly clickly. The stick itself is a little smaller in diameter. Which I like. The Thrustmaster fit my hand fine, it was just a different feel. The Logitech takes more force to move the stick which feels good to me right now. However I could see in the middle of a long gaming session I might wish for an easier push.

On to the throttle controls. Obviously the Thrustmaster wins hands-down here. However I found that as I was dogfighting I didn't need the level of control that the Thrustmaster throttle provided. There is a command in the game that will match your speed to your target. Basically like radar enhanced cruise control on new cars. I find that when I target someone it's easiest to trigger that and I can stick to them easily. Beyond that I really only need full throttle and full stop, which I can get with voice command or a quick double tap of W or S. There are a lot of buttons on the throttle which is nice, but there's a lot of buttons on my keyboard too.

Basically if you're not going to get something with toggle switches and double thruster control like the "Mad Catz Saitek Pro Flight X-55 Rhino H.O.T.A.S." or the "Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog Joystick" (and there may never be a reason to) then save $15 and go with the Logitech you'll be happy.

PERFECT flight stick for Elite Dangerous

Like the title says, bought this to play Elite Dangerous and have not regretted it. This is absolutely perfect for the game, and I would highly recommend it over a gamepad. I'm sure this would be good for some other games too but Elite Dangerous is all I've used it with so far.

Construction is solid; it's made out of plastic but has a good deal of weight to it. The flight stick actually breaks into two parts so you can space your hands further apart if desired. Button travel and feel is good, and they're all intuitively located. No grabbing around or looking down trying to figure out where your controls are located! The joystick itself is tight without being so stiff that you can't move it through the full range of motion without upsetting the base. The throttle has a nice smooth range of motion with forward and reverse and a "dead" spot for 0.

Styling isn't my favorite, and the colors are a little underwhelming. But honestly, that's a cosmetic thing and shouldn't influence your decision if you just need something to play flight sims or similar games.
