Update - 9 September 2008. This thing has been great. Just a note...no further problems with the zipper. Worked great in the rain on several occasions and my dad has used this thing a gazillion times. Also, if you are using this on a car with no front rails, don't worry, it works great....just move the front straps to the second set of side rail loops and hook around the side rails, just be sure to get both straps in front of the middle post on the side rails. Works AWESOME!!
Sooooo, overall this bag met my needs. (I am giving it 3 stars only because my bag leaked...I would really give it 3 3/4 stars if I could). It held lots of luggage (soft sided duffel bags is what I suggest to use pack your Thule bag...you can push and conform them to the shape of the Thule bag, plus I found them easy to throw on top of my Ford Escape's rooftop without fear of damaging the top of the car). I would suggest to you to put your luggage in large hefty trash bags and then store and them into your Thule bag when traveling. Thats what we did after we found out the bag was not 100% waterproof. I hope you find this review to be helpful.
I followed the advice and used some duct tape on the straps to prevent them from flapping and it worked great. We drove thru some pretty hard downpours on the way down and nothing got wet. It folds up with ease and stores in its own carry bag. I can't vouch for the longevity of this carrier since we've only used it once, but it seems pretty sturdy. The only negative I can think of is having to wipe off the bugs before putting it away, but even that wasn't too bad with just some wet paper towels. Overall, I'm VERY glad I got this carrier instead of the more expensive hard-top carriers.
