Thule Sidekick Cargo Box
The Thule 682 Sidekick Rooftop Cargo Box is compact roof box tailor-made for small vehicles that need to conserve space. The 682 Sidekick allows for 8 cubic feet or up to 110-lbs of cargo per box makes it ideal for carrying small loads such as camping gear or golf clubs. The box is constructed UV and impact-resistent ABS plastic, ensuring years of durable wear. It is compatible with all Thule base racks, as well as most any aftermarket or factory roof rack, and installs/can be removed from your rack in minutes without the use of tools via the Thule U-bolt/knob mounting system. All the necessary mounting hardware and straps are included, and the unit is covered by a lifetime limited warranty.
Get Your Gear Out of the Car and onto Your Roof
Thule's cargo boxes are designed with your active life in mind. Compatible with all Thule rack systems, as well as round bar and most factory racks, they allow you to get your gear out of your car and onto the top of your roof - saving precious interior space, keeping moisture out of your vehicle when hauling snowsport or watersport gear and securing items that would otherwise roll around during transit. They are innovative, built to last, are easy to load and unload and break down quickly and easily when the time comes. Finally, Thule's assortment of rooftop boxes gives you many options to transport your gear safely, easily and in style. Simply choose the one that best fits the length of your vehicle roof and rack and experience the difference they make in your travels.
Installation with the U-Bolt Mounting System
Installation and/or removal of the Sidekick Rooftop Cargo Box from your rack is easy and fast via Thule's U-Bolt mounting system. This nearly tool-free mounting system allows you to attach your rooftop box to virtually any roof rack in minutes. Each corner of the Sidekick has a series of four pre-bored holes aligned along the length of the box. Included U-Bolt hardware is slid up from the bottom, across the crossbars of your rack and into two of these four holes. Once through, the hardware attaches to one of the four supplied knobs. Simply twist the threaded knob to get a secure hold that you can count on, and easily remove as you please. Also included as part of this system are all the hardware needed. Because of the pre-bored holes, the Sidekick requires a minimum spacing of rack crossbars of 23⅝", and a maximum spacing of 32 1/16".
Simple Use, Stowage and Security
Once Thule's Sidekick Rooftop Cargo Box is installed it is extremely easy to use. Easy access to gear is guaranteed with Thule's passenger-side opening system built into the lid of Sidekick that also allows for one-handed usage, with the lid staying in place when opened. Finally, the Sidekick Rooftop Cargo Box provides for the security of your gear via two included locks to secure box contents and lock the box to the carrier.

Limited Lifetime Warranty
Thule will warranty all Thule brand car rack systems and its accessories manufactured by Thule during the time that an original retail purchaser owns the product. This warranty terminates if a purchaser transfers the product to any other person. No warranty is given for defects caused by normal wear and tear, cosmetic rust, scratches, accidents, unlawful vehicle operation, or modification of, or any types of repair of a load carrier system other than those authorized by Thule.
Thule was founded in 1942 by the Thulin family, when Eric Thulen, a true lover of the outdoors, put the Thule name on a pike trap he designed and began to sell in Scandinavia. It wasn't long before he added other practical items to the company's portfolio. By the 1960s, the company began to concentrate on car-related products, including its first roof rack. The Thulin family sold Thule to the publicly listed company Eldon in 1979, and it has continued to grow both organically and through acquisitions ever since. The Thule Group is a world leader in providing transport solutions for an active life.

It worked great, and kept everything dry during several days of rain.
I did have to drill a couple new mounting holes to move the cargo box far enough forward so I could still open the rear hatch.
To give you an idea of size, I was able to fit three milk crates with some room to spare
- Small, does not effect the car other than maybe lowering my MPG by 1 or 2 miles
- Keeps everything dry
- Great to have extra space for camping gear, or whatever
- Small, couldn't fit everything I hoped
- Assembly was a challenge because of the placement of the hinges
- Feels flimsy, though once locked, even without a strap, I didn't have any issues, even at 80mph
Be aware that this carrier is tall and not very long. It is designed for duffel bags, backpacks, etc, and not for long items like skis. While the height provides usable volume, it makes an SUV too tall to use in many parking structures. For example, the total height of a 2006 KIA Sportage with this box installed is 7 feet. Having said this, it is capable of swallowing a huge amount of cargo.
Unlike the latches on other cargo boxes, the latches on this box require a key to use. In other words, the box cannot be latched without a key. This is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.
This is an ideal carrier for a small vehicle think fit , fiesta , focus , civic , golf , gti . I took it on a camping trip and easily fit lots of gear and kept it dry through some hard rain. I did have to drill mounting holes in the back but that is easily done .
In short - it's the perfect fit for a cross-over vehicle, it's well made, simple to install, and keeps your luggage safe and dry during a road trip. Pretty much everything I could expect from a cargo box!
