I enjoyed reading this book. The friendships created were easy and plentiful, much like how children make friends. There were the happiest of moments, scary moments, and very sad moments. This book takes you through all of the emotions. Yes, I even caught myself sniffling and needing a tissue.
While reading this tale, I kept picturing the animals talking to each other in cartoon form in my head. I hope this becomes a new favorite in everyone's home -- on book and DVD.
Thunder was my favorite character. Frederick was probably my least favorite. Soma was my second favorite for her honesty and vulnerability.
Eventually, Thunder and his group arrive at Heart Haven, a green valley hidden by surrounding cliffs with a small, hidden opening to admit the animals. Here there is peace and tranquility with no threat from poachers or predators, a kind of paradise on earth.
This needs to be made into a movie to tell the world this is happening to many species that are in decline, threatened or in danger of extinction. Thunder would make an excellent mascot for a movement against poaching, with the movie as the verbal message.
Highly recommended for children and adults.
“Home is not a place anymore. It’s who you’re with. And we’re together, that’s the important thing,” is one of the earliest lessons Thunder is taught by his mother, who is aware of the hunters and that they can strike unexpectedly at any given moment. When they do strike, Thunder experiences the trauma of being attacked, separated from his mother, captured, and caged. Thunder forms friendships with other creatures on his journey, and with the help of a parrot, a rhino, and other wildlife characters, while the young elephant endures his adventure of overcoming the adversity in his determination to be reunited with his mother, he also becomes a legend in his own right, known to all the creatures for displaying an act of forgiveness by helping to save a young human and restoring the balance of coexistence between wildlife and humanity.
The characters are animals, but they are funny! We all need to laugh!! I will encourage everyone to read this story!!
