Review

Ms. Foster has the remarkable ability to integrate steamy romance with great story telling. I gave it five stars because I couldn't put it down. Keep them coming, Mimi! Under the Skin author, Nick Hahn

From the Author

Growing up on shorelines, I ached for the sound of crashing waves when I went away to college in Boulder, CO. Coming around a mountain pass one day, my heart sang at the sight of a wide expanse of water, and from that moment on, Nederland became my favorite haunt.

Months later, sitting in a snowstorm in my car, watching angry whitecaps form on the reservoir, I had my first experience with thunder snow, a strange phenomenon of thunder reverberating in the confined space of heavy snow clouds. When I decided to write my first book, I used a profession I knew (Realtor), and a place I loved (Nederland), and the Thunder on the Mountain series was born.

I think I would qualify Thunder Snow as a true Contemporary Romance book. Ms. Foster created characters and a story that had all of the elements we want, damsel in distress, kind-hearted advisor, dashing hero yet was not perfect, breathtaking scenery and HEA. It was so enjoyable to read. I picked it up, was able to get right into the backstory and present day storyline and felt the speed that it moved along was just right. The words were clean, clear and realistic which only added to my comfort while reading Thunder Snow.

I loved this book. I loved the characters, the setting, the interaction between Callie and Sam and Callie and Jack. I was thrilled when they began to become friends and then possibly even more and was sad and annoyed when they met bumps and swerves in the road. I was on a Rocky Mountain High when they were and grieved when they did. There was passion and depth to the love affair between Callie and Jack and their intimacy was both sexy and appropriate.

This book and Mimi achieved something that I consider to a huge coup: By the end of the story (and possible much earlier truth be told) I wanted to BE Callie. I often love characters and would even go so far as to feel like they are my friends but to want to live that character's life, warts and all? That is really saying something. I would whole heartedly recommend this book to romance readers without reservation and completely look forward to Thunder Struck in November.

I must admit that I picked this book up based solely on the location. I once lived in Nederland Colorado (well, actually, I lived in a valley up on Magnolia, s brutal little switchback road with cliffs on one side, and dizzying drops on the other, which anyone familiar with the area will know. Driving it in winter in an F150 was "interesting" to say the least!). Ned is a beautiful little town, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. And who can find a town with a Frozen Dead Guy and a Carousel of Happiness all in the same place? Not to mention the Pioneer Inn, which would make any rock fan faint with envy. Besides being the first place I know if to turn fast food grease into automobile fuel?

Foster's descriptions are spot on, from Ned itself to Lefthand Canyon, Boulder and beyond. Her local characters are also wonderfully drawn. Sam and Morning Sun are both jewels who reminds me very much of people I once knew in Ned, and the few interactions we get with other characters made me feel at home. Overall, that portion of the book was worth the read.

Now for the bad part. The totally unrealistic romance and how it took a strong female lead and turned her into a caricature of the needy, whiny romantic novel female with the emotional maturity of a 14-year-old. Callie comes to the novel strong and extremely likable. She has been through a lot, having been stalked and terrorized by a sadistic, narcissistic sociopath and stood up for herself. However, immediately upon entering Ned and meeting Sam, a dear old friend of her father's, she also meets Jack, a narcissistic, self-centered jerk who goes out of his way to be cruel to her. And, of course, she immediately falls head over heels. Huh? Didn't she just get past all that?

Mimi Foster has a style of her own for writing romance and fun with some mystery all tied into the story.
I enjoyed this book because not only was the story a good read but it kept you moving throughout the story. Ms Foster description of the town Nederland made me want to be part of this quaint town with its unique characters. You will not soon forget Jack & Callie's story. I started reading it and did not want to put it down. I am so looking forward to the next book "Thunder Struck".

The story line started off kind of slow but eventually got entriguing. Some of the dialogue was a little far fetched. You wonder if a love like that is possible. I loved the banter between the two main carachters. The ending was a big surprise.

Loved this book! Thunder Snow is filled with excitement, mystery, drama and romance all in one book that you could not put down! Callie was interesting - loved how she embraced her life. Callie was a successful business woman who seemed to have it all = she was strong, vibrant, determined, and witty - rolled into one dynamic multi-faceted character. Jack was mysterious but seemed to have caught Callie's attention with his rough exterior. While he became softer around the edges, you wondered what was just below the surface. Both Callie and Jack were running away from their pasts and found solace in the Colorado high country and in each other. Loved getting lost in this book!

I really loved this book. It had great lead characters and equally great supporting. (Especially Sam) I love when a series is centered around a location and when done right, like Kristen Ashley does, it is amazing...Mimi did it right! She did an amazing job with descriptions and you could almost feel the snow and smell the fire at night. Our hero is a mystery but the way he loves our girl it doesn't become a story distraction. This story was well told and very balanced. Equal amounts romance, mystery, angst and Steam! If it had an epi I would have given it 5 Stars!!!!!!
