The concept is fun and simple for sure, but I was getting bored already by the end of the second game.
Basically, you are simulating a role playing character creation by obtaining and manipulating dice to get to a certain sum for 6 different attributes.
However, there just wasn't enough content for me.
My main problem is there isn't enough interaction between the players for me. The only "interaction" you have is stealing the dice your opponent may be looking for.
It would be awesome if I can somehow manipulate my opponent's die (ex: giving them a scar or something)
I do see potential with this game and I hope there will be expansions to make this a better game.
Really simple dice mechanic, grab dice from bag, roll, arrange, bid, place for your character sheet, then buy gear. But each spot let's you do something special (ie flip a dice somewhere over, so a 1 becomes a 6). Lots of strategy to get a really high score, but minimal explaining and fast turns. Love it, can't wait for more expansions.
I think thematically the game is great. This is about character creation after all. You want specific ability scores to suit your class and certain items bought or actions taken (also represented by cards) will move your alignment toward one side or another. The meaning behind certain color dice (which usually represent a specific character trait) being in certain positions based on a back story is nebulous though.
The game is super simple fun for anybody and tabletop or video game RPG players used to the act of rolling characters will get an especial bump in enjoyment from this I think. Good dice rolling games have to strike a certain balance of supplementing the randomness of the rolls with control so the game doesn't feel too luck based and this one succeeds with flying colors in my opinion.
I do wish there was a little bit more variety offered by the chosen character race besides ability score modifiers like a starting skill or something. And the humans seem like the best starting choice since they have no ability score modifier and character class is somewhat randomly chosen after race is picked.
NOTE: Character race in attached picture is NOT one included in the game. Search "
Roll Player: Frogkin Promo Punchboard" to find it.
The Game play:
Fill out your character sheet with 3 dice per attribute based on your class, race, background story and purchased traits. The player to go first draws one die per player plus one(four player max), rolls them and then places the highest die on the highest market order pick. All cards between the first and last get an extra gold coin. The player taking the highest die gets the last pick in the market phase and the player with the lowest gets the first. The player picks their die and places it on the character sheet. Each attribute allows the player a special action like change two die positions or flip die to opposite side of the the die(one to six, two to five, etc). There is also a mini game on the alignment card. The purchase of some market cards and the use of purchased skill cards move your marker around 9 squares which can add or subtract points to your final score. The market phase becomes the most important part of the game. Use the power of your gold coins to purchase the best cards for your class. Market cards include weapons, armor, skills and traits. Players total their score by the successes of the character sheet, alignment mini game and market phase purchase. Player with the highest score wins.
Over all I find the game a little light one rules and game play. I don't think this game will make it to my table that often but ...
It does play fast, which means if you are looking for a filler quick game, this would work.
The dice as I mentioned before could be used for others games with cheap crap dice or even markers.
You could use the background stories and alignment cards to quickly create an NPC background.
For point of reference my top games right now are Small World, Blood Rage, Settlers of Catan, 7 Wonders, Samuri Swords, Twightlight Imperium, Imhotep, Clue Master detective game, Scotland yards, Caverna: The Cave Farmers ... many more
