Currently wearing these boots on our month long trip in Europe, the boots are holding up wonderfully! I've been doing miles of walking daily in cold/wet/snowy weather and the Captains are ridiculously comfortable, warm and dry inside. Better yet, I don't look like a tourist and I have boots I can wear when I return stateside. If you are thinking of buying these, do it. You won't be disappointed at all! 10/10 would buy again and again and again.....
Anyway...the Captain. Fresh out of the box, you can tell they’re made by hand. I wouldn’t have been surprised for a loose stitch or a slightly not-dead-straight seam, but mine were perfect. The quality is not comparable to anything you’d buy at a department store. They’re simply a better product.
The color is on the redder side of brown, which pleased me. I was torn between brown and black because you can wear black with anything, and I figured if I had one pair that could go with jeans and a grey or black suit, I should get the black. But the brown just looks more rich and has more character. But since these almost have a burgundy tone to them, I know they’ll look good with black or faded black jeans (if not a charcoal suit). So, not as versatile as black, but they’ll look better with more things.
I’ve seen people compare these to the wolverine 1000 mile boot, but that’s barely half the story. They feel tough, definitely, and you can certainly wear these for tough stuff like riding or motorcycle or going for a walk through the woods. But the styling is way more refined and the leather has way more luster than a utility boot like the Wolverines.
My point is that if you’re a burly dude who wants some tough boots to kick ass in, these are a way more stylish alternative to the Wolverines. Scuff them up a little and they’ll look like you just came back from winning an ass-kicking contest.
If you’re a stylish dude, these are an elegant but edgy alternative to dress shoes. They’re definitely refined enough to wear with a suit for that “suited and booted” look. Just make sure they have a fresh shine (more on that in a minute).
The best part is that the Captain can do both. These can look equally as cool when worn casually or formally. It really depends on how you treat them, and how you shine them.
In my first picture you can see what they look like fresh out of the box. Every picture after that shows what they look like before I walked around in them, but after I put some leather balm and 3 coats of Saphir wax polish on them. When I get (quality) new boots or shoes I like to moisturize and polish them before I wear them. Get them started on the right foot, so to speak. (Applause, applause, applause....)
Would I recommend these? Only to strangers. I don’t want my friends copping my style. I’m planning on making these boots my signature shoes for the next year or so.
The makers on these boots need to improve the quality and work in the insole comfort for the price paid.
I liked the looks, but I am not going to kill my feet.
I was planning to order a second pair of these boots in different color, but I have changed my mind, NO ANYMORE!
