5.0 out of 5 stars Let’s talk style, color & what they wear well with.
By Anthony on November 4, 2018
This is the 3rd pair of Thursday boots I’ve owned. First off - order half a size down. Not a full size.

Anyway...the Captain. Fresh out of the box, you can tell they’re made by hand. I wouldn’t have been surprised for a loose stitch or a slightly not-dead-straight seam, but mine were perfect. The quality is not comparable to anything you’d buy at a department store. They’re simply a better product.

The color is on the redder side of brown, which pleased me. I was torn between brown and black because you can wear black with anything, and I figured if I had one pair that could go with jeans and a grey or black suit, I should get the black. But the brown just looks more rich and has more character. But since these almost have a burgundy tone to them, I know they’ll look good with black or faded black jeans (if not a charcoal suit). So, not as versatile as black, but they’ll look better with more things.

I’ve seen people compare these to the wolverine 1000 mile boot, but that’s barely half the story. They feel tough, definitely, and you can certainly wear these for tough stuff like riding or motorcycle or going for a walk through the woods. But the styling is way more refined and the leather has way more luster than a utility boot like the Wolverines.

My point is that if you’re a burly dude who wants some tough boots to kick ass in, these are a way more stylish alternative to the Wolverines. Scuff them up a little and they’ll look like you just came back from winning an ass-kicking contest.

If you’re a stylish dude, these are an elegant but edgy alternative to dress shoes. They’re definitely refined enough to wear with a suit for that “suited and booted” look. Just make sure they have a fresh shine (more on that in a minute).

The best part is that the Captain can do both. These can look equally as cool when worn casually or formally. It really depends on how you treat them, and how you shine them.

In my first picture you can see what they look like fresh out of the box. Every picture after that shows what they look like before I walked around in them, but after I put some leather balm and 3 coats of Saphir wax polish on them. When I get (quality) new boots or shoes I like to moisturize and polish them before I wear them. Get them started on the right foot, so to speak. (Applause, applause, applause....)

Would I recommend these? Only to strangers. I don’t want my friends copping my style. I’m planning on making these boots my signature shoes for the next year or so.

1.0 out of 5 stars TWO DAYS IN & MAJOR ISSUES, ATTN: THURSDAY BOOT COMPANY, The Captain Is Going Down
By Den on November 20, 2018
So I took the risk and deviated from my normal boots from Ben Sherman, Allen Edmonds, etc. to purchase a pair of Thursday Boot’s. After I had contacted them on Instagram and had some of my followers discuss their Thursday’s with me, seemed like a good deal.

I have worn these boots (2) TWO TIMES and see splitting in the sole (see photos), a couple of threads coming loose, etc. I work in luxury retail and more importantly I live in Texas; good boots are a must.

Hopefully Thursday will see this ASAP and remedy this quickly. I’ll be shooting them a message on Instagram as well.

So for now I have to give Thursday the rating a two day worn boot deserves, hope to hear from them soon, and definitely hope to be receiving a new pair soon.

2.0 out of 5 stars Weakest Soles I’ve Ever Seen
By Patrick on September 16, 2019
I bought my pair less than three months ago and the soles are already peeling off. Thursday advertises (relentlessly) about their rugged quality and sturdy Goodyear welt construction, and while they are nice looking boots, the leather is thin and the soles are unacceptable. I wear them daily when I ride my motorcycle to work and then around the office. I try to avoid being rough with them but the leather is gouged, the soles are falling off and the stain is wearing all around. For reference, my last pair of boots were $75 Levi's which lasted a year and a half before the seams started to go. I thought I was upgrading with Thursdays but was apparently mistaken.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inconsistent quality
By Alex on May 31, 2019
Inconsistent quality in the stitching and soles on both left and right boots. I want to love these boots but can't live with paying 200$ for bad quality stitching/soles. I think the stitching will loosen over time and come undone. I would like to exchange these for another pair, Thursday boots.

1st Update. Contacted customer service and they were very helpful. New pair of boots on the way with quality in check this time. Will update this review when I receive the new pair.

2nd Update. They sent me a new pair expedited with no more quality issues. I'm very satisfied now but, I will say the first hour I wore these my heels were killing me. Not sure if that is an issue everyone will have (I'm pretty positive I got the correct size) But I will wear them in and wear thicker socks and update this review once again after a few weeks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great boots!
By cdscivic on January 16, 2017
I generally do not leave reviews, but I felt compelled to do so here. I struggled finding the perfect boot to wear for a month in Europe that wouldn't make me look like a tourist and that I would wear to the office or around town when I returned stateside. After 2 months, I decided on Thursday boots. Brown Captains to be specific. What arrived were nice, beautiful boots! I had to exchange my first pair as there was a small issue with the stitching, but Thursday's customer service is second to none and handled it with no issues whatsoever.

4/14/17 UPDATE
Currently wearing these boots on our month long trip in Europe, the boots are holding up wonderfully! I've been doing miles of walking daily in cold/wet/snowy weather and the Captains are ridiculously comfortable, warm and dry inside. Better yet, I don't look like a tourist and I have boots I can wear when I return stateside. If you are thinking of buying these, do it. You won't be disappointed at all! 10/10 would buy again and again and again.....

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment in the details
Reviewed in Canada on September 9, 2018
UPDATE: After one month of wear these things are FINALLY broken in. In order to stop the slipping I had to put in a pair of cloth insoles. They're still not great but at least they don't kill my feet as much, although I still wouldn't want to wear these things for an extended period. All my other criticisms still stand.

Keep in mind this review is from ONE DAY of wear at a quiet indoor wedding party. I was hoping these boots would be decent value for the money but having owned boots from other manufacturers around this price, I'm disappointed.

DESIGN: Probably the only thing I like about this boot. Heritage work boot style but nice and dressy. Can be dressed up or down.

SIZING: I wear a size 10 in all athletic shoes and a 9.5 in every other boot I own. I have a very standard foot size. I ordered a 9.5 d(m) and it fits rather awkwardly. The top of the boot laces shut completely with extra room around the ankle. I had to wait a day for the leather to wear in enough to actually tighten the laces around the foot itself and it will certainly create some weird crease lines on the leather. The fact that the lining material instead of being soft is in fact very slippery makes the sizing even worse as my foots doesn't stay in place and the boot therefore feels even larger. I would have sized down to a 9 but while everything else was slightly too large the length fit my foot perfectly.

MATERIAL: Let's start with colour. Initially these boots seemed very dark but with a day of wear I can see that with some stress on the leather it will lighten in places but the leather itself is not nice. The leather wrinkles like a cheap, papery leather. The leather is poorer in quality compared to other boots I own at a similar price. Scuffing is a big problem. After a day of wear and not contacting anything roughly the boots picked up several scratches and scuffs. I've tried my usual methods of hiding them which work on my other chrome tanned leathers but to no avail. The scuffs remain and the scratches are only partially hidden by colouring them with shoe cream. The exposed leather will not absorb enough colour to look like the rest of the boot. In addition the exposed backs of the speed hooks are scratching the tongue of the boot very badly. I will wax polish these but given how easily the leather scuffs and scratches it's going to SUCK to maintain these boots.

CONSTRUCTION: Construction seemed okay out of the box but well below what it should have been. Like one other reviewer my sole had a small crack in it. The stitching of the goodyear welt was not great and left a few gaping holes in the leather. This will collect moisture and lead to the stitching dying MUCH sooner than it should. I may try waxing the holes and the welting thread to keep moisture out but I don't hold out much hope. Also while I was recolouring the scratches I noticed that the exposed edges of the leather weren't coloured in a few places.

Again, this is ONE DAY of wear to an indoor wedding party. I wanted to love these because I really do like the design even over Wolverines, Red Wings, and other boots in a similar style, but these really let me down.

3.0 out of 5 stars Extremely comfortable shoes but quality control could have been better
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 5, 2020
I bought the shoes and went half a size down from the sneaker size I normally wear. The boots are OK but I think I could have even gone down a full size! However, the shoes are extremely comfortable and break in time is very short (take about 10 minutes to loosen up, my first walk was 2hrs long and no foot pain)

The materials are good, however the quality control could have been much better! some stitches are a bit loose, and one very annoying thing is that the sole of the left shoe is different compared to the sole on the right shoe, therefore the shoes are asymmetric and the left shoe is much higher than the right shoe. This is dissapointing and therefore I only give these shoes 3 stars. If this problem didn't exist I would definitely score the shoes a 5 star rating...
