The book also contains a series of commentaries by the Dalai Lama. Essays include: Compassion, World Peace and Happiness; Ecology and the Human Heart; Universal Responsibility and the Heart; Tibet As I Knew It; My Life In Lhasa; and The Meaning of Pilgrimage. These essays were a result of a lengthy sharing of Galen Lowell"s pictures with the Dalai Lama which were transcribed. I am highly impressed with the Dalai Lama's vision for his country in 1989. His envisioning has changed somewhat recently yet the original proposal of the Dalai Lama presented to the world for Tibet that, although totally rejected by the Chinese, is a beacon light for what Tibet could become. Also the essays present a passionate view of compassion. details of the Dalai Lama's early childhood remembrances, and a strong emphasis on responsible environmental stewardship. I also now understand much more deeply what pilgrimage means to practitioners. This volume is a veritable celebration of pre-Chinese Tibet. The book rates the highest five star gem imaginable--even a sixth star! A obligatory enjoy for Tibetan lovers.
Second, it features essays by the Dalai Lama that give insight to the photos. His topics include ecology, environment, spirituality, Lhasa and Mount Kailash.
