This calendar features the artwork of Tibetan artist Tashi Dhargyal, who paints traditional subjects in the classical style, from goddesses of compassion to fierce protectors of the Buddha’s teachings. Tashi trained with master painter Venerable Sangye Yeshi at a school established at the behest of the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, India. For five years he was the artist-in-residence at Ganden Monastery before coming to the United States to continue his craftsmanship. About the Author

Tibetan artist Tashi Dhargyal trained with master painter Venerable Sangye Yeshi at a school established at the behest of the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, India. For five years he was the artist-in-residence at Ganden Jangtse Monastery before coming to the United States to continue his craftsmanship. He is the first Tibetan to paint a thanbhochi, a huge ceremonial scroll painting, outside of Tibet, and in 2018 Tashi donated his two-story thanbhochi to the Dalai Lama, and it is now hung behind His Holiness when he teaches in India at the site of the Buddha’s enlightenment. It is the first time that I buy a calendar of Tibetan Buddhism, unfortunately it lacks the Buddhist sacred dates, which there are several each month. On the other hand for instance, it is marked H.H. Dalai Lama's birthday but no Saga Dawa, so I don't understand the criteria that WP used for designing this calendar. Even US national days are marked that have nothing to do with buddhist dates.
Nevertheless I found very nice the quality of the paper and the thangkas.

Wisdom has been putting out this calendar since the Civil War or something and every year I am so happy when it arrives. The 2020 edition is beautiful as always. Moreover, even as I have just thumbed through it rather than hanging it - which would require taking down 2019 six weeks early - I am already seeing points for my own reflection both in the thangkas I know and those I don't. If this sort of thing is your sort of thing, I don't think you can do better.
