I really don't understand the chemistry of these. They work really well at first, and after a few weeks they smell like vomit. Literal vomit. It's embarrassing when you don't realize, use it, then it smells like you threw up on yourself. I thought at first I cleaned up a vomit stain with it and caused this, but every Tide Pen I have owned has stunk really, really, bad. I've read on reddit that people even get yellow stains from these. Luckily, I haven't experienced that, but the smell alone is enough of a turnoff. I'm looking for a new instant stain remover because it's just such a nasty smell.

These were a lifesaver. I was walking to the bus and decided it was a great decision to drink coffee while walking. Like a scene from an infomercial, I spilled coffee all over my white shirt. Yes, the classic coffee on the white shirt. Luckily I had one of these in my bag (I put one in each of my most-used purses in anticipation of my clumsiness). I went into a store bathroom and quickly scrubbed the Tide To Go on my shirt. All of the coffee blobs went away and once the awkward wet splotches dried up, my shirt was perfectly white again. We were on vacation and I had this in my purse. Stopped for coffee. I spilled some on my white pants. This plus a wet napkin and a little bit of rubbing took it completely out. Later we stopped for ice cream. I dropped chocolate ice cream on my white pants. You can tell what I’ve been eating by what food I’m wearing on my clothes. I’m a spill person. I think it’s genetic. That’s how I figured out I needed to carry a bottle of water, napkins and a Tide stick. If you were born with the same affliction as I have, this was made for you. You get three in a pack. One doesn’t last too long if you use it after every meal but luckily, they’re small enough that you can carry all three in your purse and be able to wear white pants.

Red Wine stains on pale pink shirt -- completely gone

Okay, I had this pale pink tee that I would wear when going out to college parties; then one night disaster struck, and someone stumbled into me at a party and spilled their entire red solo cup of red wine down my front. In my desperation, I took off my shirt (and borrowed a friend's sweater) and attempted rinsing it with water in the bathroom sink -- nothing. The stains were deep and pigmented and no amount of handsoap would help. And being a broke college student, I didn't have any serious stain removing stuff on hand besides a Tide to-go stick my friend gave me once a whim.

So I wrung out my tee and carried it soaking wet back to my dorm and let it sit overnight without treating it. After waking up the next day (afternoon), I did one last-ditch effort and absolutely attacked the stains with my friend's secondhand Tide stick. Nothing seemed to happen at first, so I admitted defeat and left it sitting on my dresser. A few hours later, I return and the stains are COMPLETELY gone. And furthermore, the original pale pink color is back, without any splotchiness or damage to the original dye. So I panic because I've never witnessed a miracle before, and wash the shirt immediately. Afterwards, it's as if that shirt has never been in a five-mile radius of cheap box wine.

Bottom-line: you have a crisis on your cotton shirt? Soak it in water to prevent permanent staining, and whip out your Tide stick. And no, I'm not being sponsored (although it would really help with tuition).

Pens shafts bleed red ink

Fatal design error. The ink/coloring of the pens shaft itself bleeds. The outside of each pen is somehow printed onto the plastic body instead of using a sticker. After awhile the red inks gets on anything it touches, including containers, fingers and clothing. The worst is when it transfers from the fingers onto the very fabrics you are trying to clean.

Don't burrito and drive

Bought these once years ago and I can't remember why I stopped buying them. My husband is a child and always drops food on himself when he eats or drinks ANYTHING (even water from water bottles!!), so I knew I probably needed to buy some of these because I'm tired of treating the stains in his shirts.

Let me just say: these work great. They're miraculous. Picture me, leaving work, knowing I'll have the house to myself that night (husband is a firefighter), so I figured I'd treat myself and stop at Taco Bell on the way home. I ordered a burrito from the drive through and went on my merry way. A few miles down the road, I soon realized that I was a little overzealous in my application of Cholula (yes, I keep it in my car) and Taco Bell hot sauce because I had, in an attempt to keep my burrito in my hand and merge at the same time, dropped a bit (or a lot) of sauce on my white blouse. As classy as this sounds, I knew I had to stop at the pet store on my way home and that I couldn't go inside with my (now) crazy-looking shirt. In stop-and-go traffic, I whipped out my little Tide pod that I'd bought for man-child-husband and proceeded to scrub EVERY BIT OF RED SAUCE OUT OF MY SHIRT. ALL OF IT CAME OUT. White shirt saved. Birds were singing and forest animals were dancing. The pet store people never knew of my sin.

Moral of the story: these rock, don't burrito and drive, don't burrito and drive IN A WHITE BLOUSE, and don't laugh at man-children because karma's a thing.

I saw one of these pens being used in the In The Heights movie and when I saw a review here saying everyone on the continent uses them, I though there must be something in it.

Having got a splash on my shirt sleeve at lunchtime today, I told everyone that I’d get rid of it quickly with my new acquisition. The before and after photos show you that after using it, I now have a stain AND a wet patch.

Not quite how they portray it in the movies.

I’ll try it again in the future and if it works, I’ll change my review. But for the time being….it’s not like it is in the movies.
