The four I purchased are serving us much better as earwig traps. Using plain vegetable oil and and a few oat flakes, I'm getting well over a hundred each night, in each trap! I let the traps work for a few nights and then empty the contents onto some newspapers and discard them. Using oil is more messy than beer, but I don't care because it works so well. Use of disposable gloves is recommended if you catch as many as I do.
I can't imagine how many earwigs live in our yard. Must be the year of the earwig. I already disposed of several thousand and yet the traps are pretty full after just a couple nights.
The downside to just putting a dish of beer out is the sun and rain.
This fixes those issues and allows a large area (3 wells) to add the beer.
I'm very happy and have kept it busy since I got it.
