TIGER DAYS: A BOOK OF FEELINGS
From tiger fierce to snail slow, there are lots of ways to feel and be. A walk through this colorful, rhyming menagerie helps young readers understand their feelings and how those feelings can change from day to day.
Children will recognize their own emotions on these pages—their enthusiasm, stubbornness, excitement, silliness, sadness, and strength. And they’ll come to see that, no matter how they act or feel each day, they’re always still themselves.
PRAISE FOR "TIGER DAYS"
- A highly useful resource for helping little ones build self-awareness and emotional vocabulary. —Kirkus
- Wild and fierce, quiet, shy, or silly: let your emotions run free through this rhythmic, rhyming exploration of the many ways that feelings manifest. A rainbow of bold hues and lively, mobile creatures transform each range of emotions into easily recognizable animal counterparts. Whether they’re full of energy like a rabbit, chatty as a parrot, slow as a snail, or quick to anger like a bull, children will learn to recognize moods in themselves and others. —Foreword Reviews
- In this tender story, Clark compares powerful emotions to animals. Hurley illustrates in a gentle graphic style, rendering even the fiercer animals with an underlying softness. “On turtle days, I’m quiet./ On turtle days, I’m shy,” Clark writes, as a timid turtle shrinks into its bell-shaped shell. But “Bear Days” bring courage and strength: “No matter what the day might bring,/ I think I could do anything” and a purple rhino represents a “stubborn” state of mind. Clark reassures readers that, though their moods change, “I’m still me, I’m always me,/ no matter how I seem.” By observing and recognizing the feelings and related behaviors conveyed, readers may potentially better understand their own. —Publishers Weekly

Editorial Reviews
Review
Depending on the day, one may feel fierce like a tiger or shy like a snail.
Throughout this book, a slew of feelings are embodied by representative animals. Rabbit days are wakeful, monkey days are playful, and otter days are full of cuddles. Each feeling and its associated animal are presented on a two-page spread, and every fourth spread makes a statement validating the emotional experience. The text follows a consistent abcc rhyming pattern and incorporates uncommon words helpful for building young readers’ emotional vocabulary, such as “stubborn” and “rage.” Sporadically, key phrases and words are emphasized through the use of all caps, though overall the presentation is crisp. An emotive animal appears atop a distinctively color-saturated and otherwise empty background in each spread, accompanied by bold, white lines of text. The book balances the inclusion of feelings typically deemed positive and negative, and it presents each nonjudgmentally. The resulting message is that no feeling needs to be fixed or corrected; all emotions are normal and bring with them physical sensations and behavioral tendencies. There are ample opportunities for adult caregivers to creatively extend this lesson through discussion or imaginative play.
A highly useful resource for helping little ones build self-awareness and emotional vocabulary. (Picture book. 3-8)

- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2025This is a really nice book on feelings with two-page spreads defining each feelings scene. The simple and sparse illustrations make it clear and easy for young readers to absorb. The short descriptions of each feeling is closed off with a playful rhyme that includes action play with a personal viewpoint children will understand—such as "No matter what you think or say, I want to do it all my way." It's a roller coaster of a read, but feelings are like that.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2025This is a great book for helping kids identify their emotions and how their body is feeling. I think as mine get older it will be great to help tag how they're feeling to somethin from this book. This is also a author and artwork we love.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2020This book has been so useful for our kiddos (2 & 6yrs old). It covers a wide range of emotions (sadness, joy, hyper, rage, shy, etc.). The pages are THICK—really high quality, so even our toddler can flip through the pages without us worrying about them tearing. Really cute illustrations. The rhymes are sweet too. But obviously, the best part about this book is it’s helping our kiddos be able to identify their emotions and work through them. All around: I’m really glad we got this book! It’s quickly becoming one of our favorites.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2021i have given this book as a gift to a family with 4 children & i am planning on purchasing at least 2 more because i love the concept - it allows a child to express how they are feeling in a creative way - it gives each one a voice - i wish there were more pages with more animals and more feelings but a parent or caregiver can encourage a child to think of other feelings and animals to expand the idea and broaden the discussion .................... wonderful!

MKReviewed in Canada on July 25, 20235.0 out of 5 stars A must have for each family !!
This book is a must have for each family with kids in the age 3-5 .
The daycare educator recommended this book and it made a huge difference for our little boy .
It basically teaches kids about feelings ( sad , happy , angry , .....) through associating each feeling with an animal ( Ex : sad like a fish as she swims in water and sad person has tears )
It really made a difference and helped our kid express his emotions which helped in his development a lot .
