Makes great white and brown rice!

We initially bought a Zojirushi NP-GBC05-XT Induction Heating System Rice Cooker based on its great reviews on Amazon. Although this high-end rice cooker promises the ultimate in rice cooking, it only has preset programs for cooking. We tried many combinations of programs and different levels of water and found that the programs were optimized to make very soft and very fluffy rice. While this may sound nice, the result is also close to being bland and bit mushy, as if you added too much water and slowly cooked it a long time. My wife, who is Japanese, told me that this is the style that most Japanese like. It is not to our taste. It looks nice and works well otherwise. Be aware that after a few years that you will need to send in the unit to have the lithium battery replaced (its not changeable by the consumer, unless you don't mind soldering in a new battery). After two weeks of experimenting with the Zojirushi cooker, we returned it and bought a Tiger Corporation JAJ-A55U WS Micom on Amazon for less money and we are quite happy with it (although this has the same issue with its lithium battery). Its not as pretty, but by our taste, it makes much better brown and white rice. Its a keeper. It also comes with a inner steaming tray if you want to steam other dishes at the same time. One minor design flaw is that the electric cord doesn't automatically rewind back into the unit as in some other models.

Makes 0.5 cup of rice

I was looking for a smaller rice cooker since I didn’t want to waste all the rice that is usually left over from my 10 cup rice cooker. The problem with a 10 cup rice cooker is that the minimum amount of rice that you can make is 2 cups and sometimes I’m the only one in the family who’s eating rice that day or the entire week. I got the Tiger tacook rice cooker because I thought that you could make just 1 cup of rice but I just discovered it’s even better because the least amount of rice it can make is half a cup of rice, which means I get fresh rice with every meal and no more wasted rice. I’ve used the synchro cooking feature with half white rice and half brown rice mixture cooking at the same time, then I tried cooking with only the cooking plate by just filling the rice cooker bowl line up to one cup with water and it works as well. Took up to 45 minutes for synchro cooking and I’ve pre-measured 0.5 cups into little 4oz containers to make rice easier and faster for meal prep.

Okay, I have to give this some superstars. I was super hesitant to spend this kind of money on a mini-rice cooker. I made sushi rice in it and it was soooo perfectly cooked and delicious. I was really going to send it back and get the $20 mini cooker at the store but after my first experience with it, it's a total keeper. The rice it cooks is just too amazing. I can't wait to put some fish or veggies in the top try (very solid and nice tray btw - not flimsy AT ALL) and see how that comes out. The one thing I don't like is that the directions say the battery has to be replaced in 4-5 years for the display, and it needs to be sent in to the manufacturer for this to happen. This is just a huge flaw in the design honestly. Hence 4 starts instead of 5.

I absolutely love this cooker! It's really fast and cooks any kind of rice perfectly fluffy in under 30min. Even the chopped potatoes in the top tray were fully cooked. I like this device because you can add as much rice as you want and the scale under the plate determines how long to cook the rice. Perfect for 1-2 people. Takes time to learn to use but I haven't screwed up or burnt anything up yet :) I made Japanese cheese cake it was really good!

So far I am very happy with this purchase. It is very cute and it can make 3 servings of soup.(which came out very delicious.) I cooked it for 80 minutes instead of the 60 minute preset and all of it came of done even though everything was frozen.(shocked that the vegetables wasn't mushy) While sync cooking you only make 1 cup of rice(I'm going to test and see if I can do like 1.5 or 2 cups) I also was able to fit 7 dumplings in the steamer basket. I am going to try the rest of the features and update later.

Excellent rice cooker. Good texture and flavor of rice every time, and very easy to use and to clean. It’s small and doesn’t take up much counter space, and the modern square design is cute.

It’s especially nice if you frequently make rice for just one or two people at a time. I prefer to make fresh rice every time rather than keeping and reheating leftovers, and it is so much easier to make a single bowl of rice with this than on the stovetop. The countdown to when the steaming will finish is also helpful if you’re cooking other side dishes or entrees on the stove: you know when to start cooking those items so they’re finished at the same time as the rice.

This rice cooker is stylish and perfect size for a small kitchen. Softness of rice is just perfect especially when I cook small amount of rice. The bottom of rice doesn't get hardened like the big rice cooker. Highly recommended for small family. The only drawback is even with Quick setting, it still need 35-40 mins to fully cook the rice.
