No quality, no customer service

One star because zero stars are allowed. My extended family, including in Japan, has preferred Tiger products for many years and they all lasted a long time. One of them was even the supposedly inferior China-made rice cooker model but it still performed well. This recent purchase, however, (which is a Japan-made rice cookerl) is TERRIBLE. I think that the lid is not seated properly, as water leaks out of the top when the rice is cooking, making a sticky mess on the rice cooker and the counter top. I emailed Tiger Corporation about the problem and NEVER HEARD BACK FROM THEM. Members of my extended family have been longtime customers of Tiger but I've been telling all of them about this recent experience and they are hesitant to buy any more Tiger rice cookers. Seeing that Tiger is not responsive to concerns from loyal customers, we are all talking about switching to another company for future purchases.

Received a rice cooker that was USED and not CLEANED!!!

I’m very disappointed. Amazon/tiger/shipper- whoever it is, did poor quality check on their returned items. This rice cooker was clearly used- as it had the rice steam residue and scratches (see photos). Now I have to go out of my way to return an item that Amazon failed to inspect. I really hope that the replacement is new.

Better Rice Maker, Better Rice!!

This is the third rice maker I've bought in less than two years :o What I've learned (that I hope will keep you from making the same mistake) is to buy a rice maker that's actually made in Japan (the lower priced units are almost always made in China even if it's a Japanese brand). While I was researching, I read that one of the first things people from China typically do when visiting Japan, is buy a Japanese-made rice maker. I can certainly see why. I could tell the difference when I pulled it out of the box. It's a much better quality.

I bought the stainless steel 5.5 cup and it's beautiful and more than big enough for my needs. And this one has a retractable cord! Love!

The same rice that I've always made is much more flavorful and the texture is different too, in a good way, It's as though the rice has more substance and certainly more depth of flavor. Who knew rice could taste better? I definitely traded up.

Well made. Fill and forget, Makes better rice than I ever could using conventional methods. A family member has been using one for years without trouble Good quality construction.

I would use other reviewers advice and purchase only the models starting with JNP as they are made in Japan and have far fewer problems (based on others reviews) than those made in China.

THE WORST!!!!!!! JUNK!!!!

I received this for Mother's Day. I started to have issues about 6 months into it. Once in awhile it would overheat and burn. Not the thing you expect from an expensive rice cooker. Being Asian, I am very familiar with rice cookers and know this isn't normal. But since it happened only once in awhile I didn't worry too much. Then later it was every time. It would cook the rice perfectly fine but in a few hours after the rice was done it would overheat to the point where it was difficult to touch the rice cooker at all.
I tried to go through Amazon , the seller then the manufacturer. I was told that I had to pay to get it shipped and get it fixed. WHAT?????
If the product is bad, at least the customer service should be there. HORRIBLE!!!
DO NOT BUY!!! They do not stand behind their product. They actually try to tell me I used it wrong. What????
I'm an Asian who's been using rice cookers for over 40 years. My last rice cooker lasted 20 years. This did not last a year.
Stand behind your product!!! No one I know will ever ever buy this brand again. If you want to know about rice cookers, ask an Asian. And this Asian is telling you, Tiger rice cookers are overpriced pieces of JUNK!!!

This came a day earlier than expected. Came in perfect condition. It's a bit smaller than I remember but I'm sure I chose the wrong size. Although the size is still perfect because it's just me. Threw in some jasmine rice and it felt like home again in about 15 minutes or so.
My mother's tiger rice cooker is about 24 years old, so there's that on durability.
Overall very happy with my purchase.

Bought in July of 2018 and we started using it when we moved into our new house. It's still working perfect and we're close to getting a year!

Update: I am writing right now and it's April 2020. Our rice cooker in Urban Satin is still working fine! 😊

Our first one is 12years old its a 10 cup we have cooked in it way over 600 times and still using it we bought a backup just in case our first one shuts down because after 600 time you would think it would quit but it just keeps cooking. For anyone looking to buy a rice cooker I would say buy a TIGER brand.

Perfect size for 2-4 people or even 1 person (it makes a small enough batch). I love the retractable cord and handle which makes storing so convenient. Easy to clean and the aluminum pot inside is of good quality, some reviewers have mentioned its light weight and wondered if it affects the quality but I assure you it doesn't. In fact, aluminum with non stick coating is a the ideal pot to use for cooking rice because of even heat distribution. Depending on your rice, you do need time to figure out the amount of water. The line is a good indicator but again, it depends on your rice and getting to know how much water it needs. Maybe I'm just really meticulous with my rice, I eat it almost every day and I like a certain fluffiness to it. If you don't care about tending to fluffiness, then just get a smart rice cooker that takes all the guess work and learning out of the equation.
Tiger products are very popular in Asia and I would highly recommend this perfect little cooker (just make sure it's made in Japan and not China, where some of the models are).

I purchased this on January 25, 2000. However by may 01, 2000, that's 3 months and 1 week, the bowl for cooking rice is peeling which means it is no longer food safe. This is not a cheep product so I would sure appreciate it please if Amazon would do a full refund even though its past the return date.

Had the 5 cup at my parents house and bought this 3 cup for my wife and I when we got married. You can easily make enough for a family of 4, but I wouldn't count on having enough left over to take to work the following day. Consider the 5 cup if that's an issue for you. Makes perfect rice every time and can even be used for oatmeal.

Pros: Simple, easy to use, looks good, matches the rest of my stainless appliances.

Cons: Cleaning the ridge where the lid closes can be annoying sometimes.

Wouldn't hesitate to buy again!
