My Rating: FOUR SUPER SWEET STARS****
What a delightfully sweet, completely unique and totally contemporary spin on another story inspired by some of our favorite fairy tales. Leave it to Lola Kidd to deliver such a wonderful twist on an age old classic. The Tiger's Tale is the third fun-filled story in an enchanting new series by Lola and I can hardly wait to see what else she has in store for us. These are all modern recreations of classics we all know and love and are all standalone short novellas which, of course in Lola's world, always have a happy ending! And as are all of Kidd's books, this story is well crafted, well written and well edited. The narrative is written in the third person with alternating his and her points of view from our hero and heroine. My favorite! This story is fast paced and relatively short but still, a very enjoyable sweet treat. It's also cute, imaginative and totally entertaining. And the characters are just so engaging! You may think you know what happens because you've read the fairytale but you would be totally wrong. One thing I know for sure about Lola Kidd - always expect the unexpected and she has certainly delivered the unexpected with this tale. Admittedly, it's been a long time since I read any fairy tales so I'm not completely sure but I believe this story may be based on Rapunzel.
In this retelling, beautiful longhaired seal shifter Hannah Waters, has lead a very sheltered and somewhat isolated life but rather than being imprisoned in a tower, Hannah has lived on a remote island owned by her wealthy, overprotective father near the exclusive shifter community Baghera. After celebrating her twenty-fifth birthday, Hannah finally receives her long awaited inheritance and now that she has her money, she's more than ready to figure out what she wants to do with her life. And first on her list is finding her mate. She's been dreaming of this day for a long time but has no idea where to begin. But never fear, leave it to her wily Grandma Jean to have a plan. The only problem - Grandma Jean forgot to let her in on the plan. Grandma Jean is one of the developers for a brand new dating app called MateMe which is still in beta testing but sweet little old grandma has been using her granddaughter Hannah as her first guinea pig. What? Oh yes! Grandma's been using Hannah's picture and corresponding with tiger shifter Landon Kern under the guise of being Hannah after the app paired them as a one hundred percent perfect match. Oh my! When Hannah travels to Baghera with her friend Ursula to celebrate her birthday, she is spotted on the beach by none other than, you guessed it, Landon Kerns and surprisingly, he seems to not only know Hannah, but also know everything about her. Unfortunately, she has no idea who he is but that doesn't stop the two from falling in love. They really hit it off on their first date and Landon is positive that Hannah is his forever mate. There's just a couple of teensy, tiny little problems - Landon no longer lives with his family on Baghera but on the mainland away from the ocean. He and his tiger hate being anywhere near a large body of water and has no intention of moving back home to Baghera or living near water. Hannah is a seal shifter and feels that she needs to live near the ocean. So what's a tiger to do when he falls head over heels in love with a seal shifter? Why, grow up and learn to compromise, of course. After all, Grandma always knows best! Let the romance begin! Oops, too late, it already has! Deliciously cute and delightfully sweet!
