1.5 Stars…..Wow WTF happened here? In all the time I have been reading Bella Jewel books I have never given this low of a rating but I am so disappointed.
I really thought Til Death Part 1 was awesome. Marcus was a sexy A***ole and Katia was a fun, bubbly, and sweet heroine. At the end of Part 1 Katia discovers Marcus is lying to her and using her. Her inner bada** comes out and I was so sure we were going to get some major payback for Marcus’s betrayal in Part II.
And when I say payback I mean taking the one thing from Marcus that he was hell bent on keeping. I don’t know why Katia didn’t run to her father for his help. She could have received all the help she needed by taking Marcus’s business with the help of her father and his money. And she could have made him suffer any number of other ways. What did Katia do? She made everyone pay for Marcus’s sins mostly her mother and daughter Penny. Yes Marcus does pay but not the way you would think. He is in a lot of pain after losing Katia because he does love her. If she would have stuck around she could have watched him cry over her. But Katia doesn’t stick around to see this, she chooses poverty instead. Huh!
I am so sad that I went from loving Katia and thinking she was great heroine to hating her. She chooses to go back to living in poverty, working herself into the ground, not providing medical care to her dying mother, and making her baby girl suffer by not having a comfortable life. Not to mention she is so angry with Marcus she refuses to tell him he has a child. WHAT!?! Katia turned into a crazy and selfish heroine. And as if it wasn’t bad enough around the 50% mark it just headed into OTT territory by ordering a hit on Marcus. I almost dnf’d this book I really didn’t care by the time Katia pulled her head out of her a** and the inevitable HEA came along.
Sadly I am very disappointed.
I can honestly say this is the first time where in book one I was left loving the heroine and fully on her side to hating her within the first ten percent of book two.
This book begins two years after Katia left Marcus. She took her mother, cut herself off from Marcus, and disappeared with only her friends Josh and Candy knowing her whereabouts. Normally I wouldn't have a problem with this but it's not just Katia and her mom stubbornly living in poverty. Marcus and Katia have a daughter. Penny. Just because Katia doesn't want to see Marcus again she's selfishly keeping Penny from knowing Marcus (like her mother did with her and Pierre) and she's denying Penny the safety and comforts that Marcus's money would provide. Or Pierre's for that matter. She's refusing ALL help. Grr...
When Katia is finally convinced to return and face Marcus the story gets even more ridiculous. She's incredulous when she sees Marcus with another woman, even though he claims there hasn't been anyone else since she left. In two years? I call bulls**t. There's a very predictable nightclub scene and a very OTT scene involving Katia's mother, which I'll admit made me tear up a bit because it reminded me of my own regrets.
Now here's the kicker. Katia is so outraged over her mother and she blames Marcus that she actually hires a hitman to take care of him. Get this - she approaches Marcus's friend, Mack, to direct her to a hitman! And then she's surprised that Marcus found out about it! For real?!
Katia has thoroughly destroyed Marcus at this point and not in the fun way that he deserves. And he still doesn't know about Penny yet!
Jewel did a complete one-eighty with this book. I loved part one and I was expecting Katia's resistance/Marcus's groveling but I didn't expect to hate the characters and the plotline so much. Very disappointing.
She's broken, dead, ruined and lost. Katia has tried her best to move on, to forget Marcus, but her heartache and a ever present reminder won't let her.
"I despise you. You ruined my life. You let me love you."- Katia
To move on, to heal, she'll have to do the last thing she wants... to see him, the monster that destroyed her. To demand a divorce. That's her only way to finally move on after two years.
Marcus is ruined. He didn't expect to fall in love with Katia, but his heart had a different plan. She's gone. He can't find her. The words he spoke to her, the last time he saw her, broke her. And now, he will know the feelings of feeling broken.
"I'm defeated. I've ruined myself. I've ruined him. Together we've destroyed each other."- Katia
She was once dead, tired, ruined, broken. Now she's pissed and wants vengeance. Marcus deserves to pay. He shouldn't be happy, when he took her happiness away from her... in multiple ways.
"Seen a lot of things in this world. Seen darkness. Seen pain. Never seen emptiness the way I see it in your eyes."- JC
My goodness gracious, wow! What an absolute amazing end for these characters. Katia is a different woman than we met in Til Death Volume 1. When what you though was real, turns out to be an utter lie, that will happen. She's angry, tired and wants him to pay! That Katia we met in the previous book is a shadow of the past, replaced by a woman on a mission. Marcus, I want to feel sorry him, but I can't. He deserves it all and then some. He gets to know how Katia feels. Gets to take a step in her shoes, and it isn't fun. Us readers get a HUGE surprise.Read more ›
