1.5 Stars…..Wow WTF happened here? In all the time I have been reading Bella Jewel books I have never given this low of a rating but I am so disappointed.
I really thought Til Death Part 1 was awesome. Marcus was a sexy A***ole and Katia was a fun, bubbly, and sweet heroine. At the end of Part 1 Katia discovers Marcus is lying to her and using her. Her inner bada** comes out and I was so sure we were going to get some major payback for Marcus’s betrayal in Part II.
And when I say payback I mean taking the one thing from Marcus that he was hell bent on keeping. I don’t know why Katia didn’t run to her father for his help. She could have received all the help she needed by taking Marcus’s business with the help of her father and his money. And she could have made him suffer any number of other ways. What did Katia do? She made everyone pay for Marcus’s sins mostly her mother and daughter Penny. Yes Marcus does pay but not the way you would think. He is in a lot of pain after losing Katia because he does love her. If she would have stuck around she could have watched him cry over her. But Katia doesn’t stick around to see this, she chooses poverty instead. Huh!
I am so sad that I went from loving Katia and thinking she was great heroine to hating her. She chooses to go back to living in poverty, working herself into the ground, not providing medical care to her dying mother, and making her baby girl suffer by not having a comfortable life. Not to mention she is so angry with Marcus she refuses to tell him he has a child. WHAT!?! Katia turned into a crazy and selfish heroine. And as if it wasn’t bad enough around the 50% mark it just headed into OTT territory by ordering a hit on Marcus. I almost dnf’d this book I really didn’t care by the time Katia pulled her head out of her a** and the inevitable HEA came along.
Sadly I am very disappointed.
So in part 2 Katia and Marcus basically scream and sob about how they have been destroyed/or destroyed each other and occasionally have angry sex. And THAT IS IT. I really think I would've been ok with the weepy, angsty, "you ripped my effing heart out" version of Katia and Marcus, if I read about them contemporaneous with their part 1depiction, it would have balanced out. Reading this as a separate books months later leaves you with the impression of nothing more than two people in agony. The romance factor is extremely low and the drama is intense to the point of being melodrama.
The book is well written but isn't really a "part 2", it's just the second half of a book that was previously incomplete. It's months later though, the memory of what we loved about part 1 is faded and there ain't much to love about the characters in part 2. And there you have it.
This book had me reading through tears at Katia's grief, and then wanting to shake some sense into both her and Marcus at their stupidity when it came to each other.
I was completely glued to the story for the entire time and was able to read it in one sitting. it's not a long book, and it has a fast and furious pace that never slows down.
Amongst all the anger and pain you'll find some scorching hot sex scenes and some tender sweet moments as well.
I enjoyed the writing style and how the dual point of view between Katia and Marcus, that jumps back and forth in time, without creating any confusion.
Overall I recommend you give this series a try if:
You love a bad boy.
Scorching hot sex scenes.
An emotional rollercoaster.
I love Bella Jewel’s writing style. She has a knack for ramping up the chemistry level between the hero and the heroine. I could literally picture the actual scenes in my mind as I was easily reading each chapter. A range of feelings were brought out in me too and I found myself absorbed with Katia and Marcus.
A great ending to Marcus and Katia's story. Given the circumstances with how they came together, I didn't expect anything to be easy as they worked their way back from the brink. Neither character is easy to like, but Bella Jewel gave us a broken Marcus who matched the broken Katia he created. Somehow him being broken balanced out the "off the deep end" Katia that we had. It took a lot for these two to finally get themselves straightened out, but in the end you could see it was truly worth it.
I love a good simple romance, but in the real world. Love sometimes get lost. It's not the right time, you're not completely in the right place, or fate is cruel, and it's lost. For a while or forever.
Not all great sex and tiny bumps with a perfect ending.
Can't wait to read JC's story.
