- Today I'm a big fan of Tile in spite of frustrations -
- biggest frustration - often can't fine items even if they are in my other hand. Finicky to connect & find items at the best of times.
- best aspect: with a /lot/ of patience, I use Tile successfully a few times a week
Found my STOLEN ID attached to Tile Pro on the side of a major highway (emergency lane) - but it took a while...(gave it to the Police hoping to find fingerprints)
- short story: I just bought another Tile, which I'm planning to sew into the lining of my purse.
- tldr details: Purse stolen. Thieves chucked my work ID (with Tile Pro attached) out the window (on their way to use all my stolen credit cards). *16 hours* later, Tile community notification 'located' my tile, except the location specified was on the /other/ side of the highway. First attempt to locate - got 2 'circles' nearly exactly on the /other/ side. After further investigation, got a new notification 'location' on the correct side. Took a while to figure out that it was on the highway, rather than on a nearby side street - then figured out that the tall metal sound-proof barrier blocked the bluetooth, e.g. I did not get any signal 7' away on the wrong side of the barrier.

Original review:
*DOA* - bought the 2-pack. One had a dead battery, the other didn't work. Tile Customer Service (sic) was remarkably terrible: very slow to respond to each message & did not understand simple things like 'i pushed the button and it did not make a sound'. Took 1 hr to get no useful help.
my advice: don't waste your time trying to get help from Tile Customer Service. if it works, it will work right away, like you would expect. if it doesn't work, just return it & try again with a new order.
Amazon customer service was great, & able to expedite a replacement for me, and the replacement worked fine.
I'm betting that Tile will save me more time in finding lost items than I wasted trying to talk to Tile Customer Service :-)
Since this new Tile product had a replaceable battery, I decided to try it. This new Tile is physically bigger than my old Tile Sport. That's actually a good thing because it means the speaker is bigger as well. With the old Tile, if I rang it from my phone, and my keys were downstairs and I was upstairs, I could barely hear ring on the tile. With this new product, I could easily hear the ringer on the Tile going off when I'm upstairs and my keys are downstairs. It also appears that Tile changes the frequency of the default ring as well, which in combination of the larger speaker, makes the ringing easier to hear.
The Alexa integration is good, but can be inconsistent. After enabling the Skill, and asking Alexa to find my keys, she will say that she is having problems finding my phone, but the ringer on the Tile will start ringing a few seconds later.
Outside, the claimed 300 feet is real, providing there is a clear line of site and the ringer was loud enough for me to follow. Since the battery is replaceable, the new Tile is more water repellent than water resistant, but that's a fair trade off. So, all in all, this new Tile is a much better product than all previous generations.
There is a new Tile Premium subscription which add smart alerts, location history, free batteries, and unlimited sharing. However, those are not features that I'm interesting in, so I didn't sign up for them.
I hope that this info helps someone....I like these tiles, I wish they would work better especially when I misplace my car keys and I am in a hurry to get somewhere and the app does not work by showing the find option and just says in near by and I can not page them.....really wish they would work better minus any phone operating system updates.... and who knows about the performance even if you do everything that they say....they might still not be able to be seen by the app and paged... so like I said to me....its 50/50

I've only had the tiles a short time and can say the installation via the app was painless with one of the tiles. You do need to register with Tile for the app to work though. The other tile in the 2 x pack however was clearly fully asleep and just would not respond. I installed a new battery at my expense and it woke up and all installed well I must admit that although one of the points of my purchase was that the battery could be replaced I did not expect to have do this on one of the tiles on setup. Any way batteries are not too expensive. Drop one star rating because of this.
In use you can assign different names to the tiles or use the generic set up. You can also use different err.... "tunes" for each tile. They are all wonderfully irritating such that your misplaced item will be found quickly either by yourself or an annoyed family member within Bluetooth range of course. You can also signal your phone to play an annoying tone using a registered tile as well.
There is a subscription option for the premium service that I have not used so will not comment on in this review.
In summary:
Pros:
- The tiles seem very well made so they should not easily break off a key ring easily
- Volume on the tiles is quite loud for such a small device
- the remote phone ringer is a plus when you have your keys but cannot remember where your phone is
- Simple setup..... when a good battery is in the tile...
Cons:
- It would be good if tiles were a tad smaller although I understand that this could limit battery options and find volume
- Dud battery in one of my tiles
- Optional premium subscription costs or benefits could be clearer in the item description.
- No battery status indication in the app. I understand that this may require a hardware change and cost. Future product maybe?
Initial conclusion:
A good product that just works. I would suggest shipping the batteries separately in the box to avoid discharged batteries upon delivery though. The irritating "tunes" work well to find the device quickly even though family members may not agree. A n included small ring would be a useful addition for those single keys not on a key ring as well for use with modern car keys that only use buttons to lock and unlock.
Apart from the dud battery in one tile and no idea as to the life left on the other tile battery I'm quite happy with my purchase.

Don't get me wrong, but the durable plastic shell doesn't help at all on the battery life.
I bought two, one for me and for my wife, her Tile dies after a week and main a week later. So, now I am understanding why in the reviews below the people mentioned that you can't avoid the substitution plan. Yes, I can buy from 3rd party company, but Really, I paid 50 pounds for two Bluetooth devices :( and two weeks later I spend 12 pounds more for battery :(
One of my phones is old S6 and takes almost 10 min to connect with the Tile when it's on 1 meter ahead, but whatever.
Overall I will not spend a coin anymore for that tech, especially when I have to buy every month's new battery.
C'mon, 21 century, rechargeable battery everywhere, why not here?

If you loose your mobile phone, you just press the button on the tile and the phone should start ringing. I can even ring one iPad from another iPad. Amazon and John Lewis sell 2 & 4 for the same price as long as they are the same ones which have replaceable batteries. Some of the questions people ask are totally ridiculously daft. They are really not hard to set up. You need to remove the old one off the item first, then add the new one.
They are well worth the cost if you work out the cost of one @ £29, 2@£49 and 4 @£89, then 4 is better value. I have had no problems with mine whether they were from Amazon or John Lewis.

Maybe the maker has got the message as these solve both problems. They are significantly louder than the originals and have an easily obtainable standard replacement button battery.
If I had any criticism it would be that the button on the side is too easy to press in your pocket. A double press on the button makes the Tile work in reverse in that it now rings and helps you find your mobile phone without the need to phone it from another phone. At least once a week I answer my phone to find nobody there but I have caught the button on the Tile again.
Overall a big improvement on the original.
I find reviews help my buying decisions. If this helps you please click the "helpful" button so I know I am not wasting my time. Thanks.

UPDATE:
4 years later still working well. Plus the fob was accidentally thrown into a bucket of water and chlorox during covid after a shopping trip (everything got sterilised) and ten minutes later I took it out, removed the battery and left it in a bag of rice overnight to remove any moisture. Works perfectly!
