When using the Tile Pro, the first thing I noticed is that it sounds louder than my Tile Sport. So I compared the two using a digital sound level meter. Interestingly they both measured around 90 dBA from a few inches away (I was expecting higher numbers from the Tile Pro).
Then I realized that the reason the Tile Pro sounds much louder is because it emits mid-range frequencies, whereas the Tile Sport emits very high frequencies. Humans don’t hear the extremely high frequencies as easily as dogs. The Tile Pro definitely has a bolder, thicker sound that makes it easier to locate.
The high frequency sound of the Tile Sport might have something to do with its waterproofing muffling its mid-range frequencies. The Tile Pro is only water resistant (can’t soak it underwater) which allows the design to have a more effective speaker grille.
Here’s a view of the two side-by-side.
Two days later I needed it and...nothing. I found the keys quickly on my own, and the tile was completely silent. No noise at all even with my phone, Bluetooth on, a foot away!
The FAQ said that if this happens to update the OS, which I did for a minor update, and it then worked, but it seems that if a minor update from IOS 12.0 to 12.1 is not going to make a $35 gadget work, that it is not worth the money. I will give it a couple more weeks, but am seriously thinking about returning it if it can't be relied on.
What they don't tell you is that alert appears 20-30 minutes after your phone lost contact with your keys. For me, that means once I've already arrived at my office by bus. I specifically purchased an extra tile for my ID badge, but I'll be standing outside my office with no ID to enter before Tile sounds the alarm. That's totally useless. I verified this with Tile premium support and they confirm that the 20-30 minute delay is how it's supposed to work.
I'm returning all of my tiles and replacing them with Cube, Chipolo, Trackr, Orbit, or one of the others once I have completed my research.
I want a two-way separation alarm, meaning that if I leave anything behind, including my phone, the other devices will alert me as soon as I'm out of bluetooth range.
I'd also like for the app on my iPhone to automatically restart if it gets stopped.
Crowd locating would be nice, but I'm having a problem determining which products have the largest crowd locating base behind tile.
Any information on a product that meets my specs would be greatly appreciated.
When the battery died, I was happy to replace the old Tile with a Tile Pro, which has replaceable batteries. Yay!
Unfortunately, the first week we had the new Tile on her, it got wet in her water bowl, and it started to malfunction. It was ringing my phone constantly, for no reason. I immediately dried it as best I could with a paper towel, removing the battery to dry the inside. Then it stopped working at all. I couldn't ring the Tile from my phone, and I couldn't ring my phone from the Tile.
Next, I dried it with a hair dryer and let it sit for awhile. I didn't mark the time it took, but eventually (probably a few hours) the Tile started functioning in both directions. I could use it to locate my phone and I could use my phone to locate the cat. Unfortunately, it randomly rang my phone for no reason again, which got very annoying after several days. It seemed the Tile was just too sensitive after having been wet. Just turning her head made it ring my phone.
This is where it got fun... I thought and thought about how to solve the problem. I ended up rubber banding her metal name tag to the Tile button, covering the button to keep it from being depressed (see picture). It worked! The random ringing stopped entirely. If I ever need to find my phone, I'll be able to access the button easily enough - but that's not the reason I have the Tile.
BUT... I worried about the Tile getting wet again when she drinks water. So... I adjusted the rubber bands by attaching the name tag and the Tile TO THE COLLAR. That way, the Tile doesn't dangle, but is instead held snug against her neck. The Tile no longer comes close to the water, much less dip into it. She doesn't seem bothered a bit that it's snug against her neck.
The Tile is now working perfectly, and I don't ever have to worry at all about it getting wet again!

Not much not to like. Put it this way I just ordered a second one.
I have thought about buying a Tile many times over the years, now they have replaceable batteries I thought I would take the plunge.
I love the feature where you double press the tile and it makes your iPhone ring (even on silent), a very handy piece of kit that will only get better with more people using them.
I’m now going to buy these for all my family to use so we have a larger network to find anything we misplace or lose.
I have the tile on my keychain and have it linked to my phone. Was not impressed to begin with, because the battery was dead out of the box. Fortunately, I had a spare battery and slipped it right in. Setup was reasonably painless and works through Bluetooth, which is where the issues come in. Having just set it up, holding the phone and tile next to each other, I pressed the button and the tile started making noises to let me know it had been activated. Nice. a couple of seconds later my phone started vibrating and ringing. Double nice. My phone finding worries were a thing of the past. Half an hour later, still coming down off the high of the certain knowledge that I would never be rummaging behind the sofa in search of my phone again, I decided to show my flat mate this incredible new toy that was going to take all this stress out of my life for ever. I gave them my phone and said 'watch this' backing away as I was anticipating their head exploding with joy and amazement. I pressed the button, the tile beeped and I stared at the phone, tingling... Nothing... just this piece of plastic in my hand beeping and bopping. I took the phone, opened the app and everything seemed to be fine. I did a search online and someone suggested turning bluetooth off and on again, which I did and Hey Presto! it worked. So far, I've tried to find my phone 3 times using the tile and 3 times it has failed to find the phone. I don't live in a castle and every time I've manually found my phone, I've had to turn the bluetooth off and back on again to solve the problem. So as long as I remember to turn bluetooth off and on again before I stuff it behind the sofa or on top of the fridge behind a box of eggs it should work fine. I'm sure with some fine tuning and some investigation I'll get to the bottom of it, but I can't say I've been impressed so far and I would go so far as to say I would be extremely unlikely to recommend this product to anyone, unless I really hated them and for some reason they were asking my advice about something that they could use to definitely find their lost phone, which they keep leaving around the house somwhere...
