Tillers reduce the physical toll of weeding or digging a garden and are much more efficient than shovels and spades. You can use them to break new ground whether you are preparing a plot for your flowers or planning to grow your own vegetables.
What to look for in a tiller
As a general rule, the larger the tiller, the more advanced terrain it can handle. Powerful models can break through hard and rocky soil with less effort and also dig deeper trenches. Additionally, power type plays a vital role in overall performance and task ability, with your choices being gas, electric, and battery operated.
Gas
If you are looking to tear through tough earth, gas-powered tillers are your best bet. On top of being completely cordless, they also provide more power and will not stall as easily as electric or battery-powered models when an obstacle presents itself. Because gas models offer more power, they also require less manpower to push around and are able to dig deeper trenches.
Electric
The biggest drawback of electric tillers compared to gas models is that you are required to be plugged into an outlet or extension cord at all times. This feature limits your work radius significantly and may not be feasible for some of your projects. Electric models, however, do not require fuel and are more eco-friendly than their gas-powered counterparts.
