As a mom of four myself, I have worked inside and outside of the home and experienced much of the guilt addressed in TILT. I have struggled to find balance and even lost myself deep in motherhood, leaving my own dreams on the back shelf covered in dust. I have been a stay-at-home mom for more than 16 years, a choice that was difficult and rewarding at the same time, and one I would not change. When my youngest child started school I felt lost and without purpose. It was then I realized I didn't know what to do if I wasn't mothering someone 24 hours a day. I felt alone and depressed, until my husband reminded me that I had to rediscover who I was. Armed with this great advice, I began teaching art to children once a month, volunteering with reading groups in the school, created this website, and started writing children's books.
When I read TILT, I felt as though Marci wrote this book just for me. Her wonderfully written story speaks to our emotions and lets us experience those emotions without guilt. Whether you have a career outside of the home, work from home, or are a stay-at-home mom, TILT will inspire and encourage you to pursue your choices with strength.
I highly recommend picking up TILT: 7 Solutions To Be A Guilt-Free Working Mom.
I am now a grandparent, helping my daughter raise her son. When I was raising my five children, balance was the word that was always spoken when people talked about raising kids and working. You have to maintain balance in your life to maintain your sanity and raise healthy children. I strove for balance, but always failed, usually at the detriment to my own health, sleep, dreams, or goals.
TILT is a refreshing way of looking at the crazy lifestyle of the working parent. There is no balance. Just being a parent throws that word out the window, throw in a career....you can take it out of the dictionary as well. Using quotes from experts, including her own children, stories from other Moms who are living the TILTed lifestyle and her own experience, Marci Fair has written a well 'tilted' book about what is important in raising a family. Learning how to ride the ride, and enjoy the ups and the downs, those little kiddos, the spouse, the house, the dog, the job....and the world around. Yeah, good stuff. Wish I had this book when mine were little!
As Dads sometime we struggle with how to "fit" in with our kids daily lives. Marci's book TILT offers a wonderful perspective on being a Mom and parenthood in general It gave me a few simple tools and tricks to find my place in the craziness of everyday Momhood.
HINT - Real Men read TILT and sometimes aren't afraid to live life in the Mom lane
Thanks Marci - great read
Another great part of this book is the stories that Marci uses to help illustrate how her tips can help you to find balance in your busy day to day lives. This was a great read.
My favorite was in Part 2, chapter 2, Connecting with your kids today. ‘I try to think about where they are in their lives, who they are, and what is important to them.’ When life gets busy it is too easy to overlook or dismiss things that at the time WE do not think is important. This section brought back a lot of memories. I wish I had this book fifteen years ago! Recommended read.
