I recently changed my routine from afternoon hikes & started early morning hikes instead to avoid the heat. To my surprise my "WATERPROOF" boots had my feet soaked within minutes of walking in the morning dewed grass. I was literally at a loss for words and miserable as I continued. That same day, I made tons of mental excuses for Timberland, as to why my boots were not really waterproof. So after much debate, I regretfully continued my blind loyalty and ordered another pair, this time I got the "Chocorua Trail Gore-Tex Mid Hiking Boot" mainly because they are said to be GORE-TEX. I know from my full military career that Gore-Tex is great and has never let me down in 20+ years, so I felt like this was a safe purchase.
The shipping came promptly, as majority of Prime packages do, and the boots looked nice out of the box. Next morning, I laced them up, and hit the trail for a light "break in" hike. About a mile in, I felt really glad that I made the switch from my "Timberland White Ledge Men's Waterproof Boot" (which I also bought on Amazon) simply labeled "waterproof" to the obviously superior "Gor-Tex.” Unfortunately the joy was very short lived. Less than half a mile later, I could feel the water on my toes. Extremely disappointed at this time I just stopped, took the pic that you see and filmed a bit of the hike just for the sake of this review. I can’t believe I’ve been screwed by such an established company.
Once I got home, I took a few pictures, dusted the grass off of the boots and left them to dry next to the other Timberland failures. The next morning the boots had turned a very dusty brown color, just from being exposed to that small amount of water. I have never saw that happen with my other ones. That strange occurrence was just more insult to injury. Obviously, I have requested a return for the “Gor-Tex" boots. I wish there was a way to get my money back on the first two pair of boots as well. I missed the 30 day window. If this only happened to one pair, or model, I probably would have continued making excuses for Timberland. At this point, I cannot believe that any of these shoes are made with the material that they are advertised.
To Be Clear: I ordered 3 different pair of Timberland's, all allegedly waterproof and NONE held up to the basic morning dew in the field that I hike (which can be seen in the video attached.)

Please feel free to give me some recommendations for boots that will handle my small demands. Thanks for your time!
I needed boots at the time these were delivered, so I ended up buying different boots at a local store the same day, which I guess is good for them! But the listing for these needs to be changed or removed. It appears that the style has been discontinued, as all that appears on the Timberland website is "Chocorua II." So put these on a closeout sale!
The new pair is just as comfortable. However, I've worn them for no more than 40 miles and already one of the lace eyelets is bent to the point of nearly breaking. I'd just assume that that is a fluke--maybe I happened to step down between rocks just so. But in addition to that, one of the boots has a significant rip between the fabric and leather, and the other one is showing signs that it's about to do the same (see pics). Either the quality is way lower than it was previously, or else I just got very unlucky with this particular pair. I'm assuming the former is true. I can't recommend them.

Nicely made and light. I did expect a lot more cushioning in the sole, they are quite hard but support well. Laces are too short for a decent double knot.
Oh, and just one more thing - worth checking the Amazon price history of these boots as they have fluctuated considerably over the past 18 months. Link: http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/Timberland-Chocura-Goretex-Membrane-Hiking/product/B000VX1BYK
Only thing to watch out for is the size, I am a size 8 in ALL my footwear but when these arrived they were a slight tight fitting. I took the gamble of keeping a size 8 and after a couple of times wearing them they soon felt a lot better and am glad I decided not to change them to a size 8.5
Can't go wrong with Timberland boots they'll last longer than any of these 'trendy' hiking boots.
So these were my replacements and so far I'm quite pleased with them. They are comfortable and keep water at bay. They also look better now that they are worn in a bit, out of the box they are not quite as good looking as my previous purchase (see above).
If these were to let me down I would probably give the first pair another chance, they were just that bit more comfortable and far better looking.
Very comfortable and decent grip. I would buy again, though hopefully they will last a while so I won't need to any time soon.
Now the boots, they are light but feel very well made, the grips are really good and with the addition of the GTX lining are perfect for walking long distances. The price advertised was £40.00 cheaper than anywhere else and in fact £1.00 cheaper than a pair of Timberland Whiteledge I recently purchased, bearing in mind that the Chocorau is the newer version of the Whiteledge. A real good buy, quality product at a really good price.
I've used them for hiking with the dog, they offer good grip and whilst I wouldn't want to walk through a brook in them, they do seem to cope well with sizable puddles and wet grass.
Just what I was looking for and at a fair price. Recommended!
As soon as I got them the quality is just 100% better. I normally wear a size 7 UK so that is what I ordered and the fit is perfect although I do have quite narrow feet so I don't know if you should go up a size if you have a problem with narrow fitting boots. I got these for £38 delivered so I am very happy with them and would recommend them for normal activities like walking the dog I don't know what they would be like for hiking as I don't do that. They are very light and easy to wear for long walks. Not sure what they are like in the wet but I am sure I will find out as coming from Scotland it is normally wet lol.
