Now I get Brooke is under a great deal of stress but she was very sharp and abrupt with the staff at the hospital taking care of her mother. She is also that way with Austin. He is a wonderful guy that still loves Brooke and wants to help in any way that he can. Brooke is torn about wanting to go back to New York but needing to take care of her mother. In New York, she has patients that she is close to and her friends of the No Brides Club. On the other hand, she wants to return to Iowa and be with her mother (and as the story goes on Austin).
Now I know going to New York was a great dream of hers. This was her time and place to grow. Getting a look into her thoughts really showed the conflict that she was going through. Austin also has his conflicts. He is still in love with Brooke and getting hurt along the way. He is unsure if she will stay or go back. The dual POV format shows this conflict that these two characters face making them so much more normal as again this is more realistic.
Where I have the problem is Brooke. I had a hard time to identify with her. Now I am older than the early 20's character. While I had the hard time doesn't mean that someone else (younger) may identify and relate to her much better. Also it was only in the Epilogue that I felt the story really ended. It wasn't just a bonus to enhance the story. To me, it was the true ending.
This was a sweet, clean second-chance romance that anyone could enjoy.
Three years ago: The h left the H who was her childhood sweetheart. She broke up with him to pursue her dreams as a nurse in NY. He stayed in town and continued his career as a firefighter.
Present: The h returns to town to care for her mom. She runs into the H. The love is still there. The H let the h go but still loved her. The h has to decide if she wants to stay for the H or return to NY to a career she loves and back to her close circle of friends.
No likes: I did not care for the h to much. She was really cold and didn't seem to care for the H as much as he did for her. I felt the H should have gotten onto the plane with the h despite his fears of flying when she left for NY to make her rounds of goodbyes and to pack. It was the least he could do after he got his girl back. The end seemed incomplete because I did not get the sense that the story ended.
Likes: I liked the H. He was a straight up kind of guy who did not play games and was really in love with the h.
A 2.5 stars.
I gave it 3 stars, because the writing is fairly decent.
Amazing.. absolutely love this story, Christina never fails to deliver a sweet, clean and sizzling second chance romance. It's exceptional, very well-written, intriguing that just draws the reader in from start to finish. The emotional pull to the story is quite extraordinary, this is certainly a book I would have no hesitation in recommending.
