If you have read Sapphire Knight before, you expect kind of dark, gritty, hot..well this is not dark, gritty, but dang it, it is HOT. I fell in love with her writing all over again and she proves she "sets the bar" for an author...different genre, but just like the little engine - OH YES SHE CAN!!!!.
The man character...wow, *swoons* Tyler is the guy we all want to be with. Yeah he kind of was a manwhore at the beginning but I liked how you did not have to read about him with OW before he gets together with Kadence. Tyler is the Alpha male we love from her writing. Kadence is the nerd we all are that gets "THE ONE".
Tyler is a big football star @ college with the potential to go pro (I will get into that a little later), Kadence is a student. They literally collide into each other on campus, and they have THE MOMENT...ya know that moment where you actually felt the world stop, awareness creep in that you literally got knocked on your A$$ by love...*sigh*
I was really drawn in to the story, I felt the emotions, the tiny bit of angst (cause you have to have mean girls and sluts on campus) but there was no cheating etc, cause you really felt that Tyler thought Jada was a slut and did not want to waste anymore time with her. She is apparently the team dumpster and the BJ queen...hahahah
I like how it was believable and it took time for Tyler and Kadence to fall in love. Tyler does have a bit of a temper, however never treated Kadence with any hint of verbal or emotional abuse. Tyler loses his temper 2 or 3x in the book but one cause someone "dissed his momma" cause he is a sweet southern boy, 1X cause he felt the disgusting team player was endangering his girl, once again sweet southern boy, and 1x cause he was stressed about offers to go pro for teams he did not want, he was stressed cause he was holding out for (New England fyi I do NOT like NE) or New Orleans (I was ok with that)...not sweet southern boy, just a fact of life.
You get a little bit of everything in this book...the college life, life on the ranch, some mystery (trying to get a bad college student to go down) love, sex - always smoking hot, life on the family ranch, moonshining - that cracked me up, it is AWESOME!!
This author is simply magic to me, you can tell she does not just write words to complete a book, she gets you sucked into the book and you feel the emotions, you connect with the characters, YOU fall in love.
The periphery characters you want to hang out with, you want their books to be written, so you end the story, you start withdrawal...I need, NEED, NEED the next books. I need Clydes story, I need Nates' story (these are Tyler Owens brothers) who Sapphire gives you a little insight. Not to mention, Kadences' dad, who was a former NFL player, is now a part of an MC, JJ and Chandler, Brianne - Kadences BFF, Kash - the QB..geez these characters stories need written now....OMG, she has so much to write about she best get-to-cracking on writing.
So go out and buy this book. If you have never read her work, go out and buy them all, I have never, and I mean NEVER been disappointed in any of her books, whether they are MC, or Russian Mafia she sucks you right in and you get hooked. I know it sounds like I have a girl crush on Sapphire Knight, I do, I will admit it...she absolutely rocks!!!
With that said, the book is good. Unfortunately Tyler is going to play football for the bad guys and not my beloved team. I'm not going to mention the teams as I don't want to give spoilers.
I am really looking forward to seeing where the series goes with the characters.
P.S. Clyde likes older, overweight, nurses...
This book was a delightful read. The characters are real, the storyline believable, the writing, smooth as silk, as always. And all the luscious feels! (AND! The tag on her totebag!! Yessss!!) Very happy book. Well done!
