I don't make this recommendation lightly.
To be perfectly candid, I downloaded their Kindle book mostly because it was free at the time, but also out of a sense of obligation. If I hope to have them read MY books when they come out, I should read theirs, right? So when I started reading an hour or so ago, I thought I was doing them a favor. Was I ever wrong! They are the ones who did ME a favor. And a big one, at that!
This is like no time management book I've ever read.
I've always considered reading about this subject to be: 1) the absolute height of eye englazement and snore inducement or 2) a painful guilt-trip from beginning to end. As a typical creative type, I am -- how do I say this kindly? -- organizationally challenged. So I expected to be somewhere between ho-hum bored, semi-comatose, and starting to drool.
But Green and Hoff have done more than raise the bar. They've deftly distilled the best time-management teachings in the industry and masterfully made those concepts easily understandable and within reach of anyone. Then they make the whole process eminently practical.
Through concrete examples from their own experiences, their teaching resonates with authenticity as they pull back the curtain to reveal their struggles, their failures and their triumphs. Then they wrap it all up by showing how anyone can implement the steps they outline.
My eyes never glazed over once, which eliminated any possibility of a snore (or a drool). I was, in fact, engaged from start to finish. For a person easily distracted by shiny objects, and who had her email client open at the same time, this speaks volumes.
And get this. I've already begun my reverse engineering. Sorry, you'll have to read the book to find out what that's all about. Trust me, you'll be glad you did.
Time Management Strategies for Entrepreneurs shows you how to achieve optimal productivity by correctly prioritizing and taking action to make your most important choices a reality.
If you want to find a better, more intelligent approach to spending your time so that you can become more productive, fulfilled, and successful, this book will give you the tools to help you get there.
An example of the author's style and approach is her suggestion to think about one's priorities: "Take a look at where you spend most of your money. Take a look at where you spend most of your time. If you discover that you aren't focused on what you say are your priorities, think about how you can change that ..."
Doing "What will be the most fun or "What needs being done right now" doesn't make our lives better. "When we remember that we are in business to make money, ... Which [task] will make me the most money" leads to much better use of our time.
As a college teacher, I can see that this short book teaches lessons that are easy to understand and that most of my students urgently need to absorb. (staying online until three in the morning and checking Facebook every few minutes while in class will most certainly not bring them closer to their goal of learning job skills and life skills).
Although much of this book SHOULD be common sense, it deserves to be read even by people who are not in the business world.
There are no RULES you have to abide by! Some people like to make to-do lists and then strike off the items they accomplish. Others like to set aside blocks of time to work or use timers to get things done. Instead of making you feel inadequate that you can't do something a "time management guru" says to do, they empower you to select and outline what works best for you. If you follow through you will find yourself more productive and will have created your own stress free plan. Indeed, each of us can come up with a plan that works best for us because we are each unique. What works for Connie is different from what works for Geoff and the same goes for us. I am a morning person but my son is a night owl and we could never follow the same plan nor do we like the same strategies!
In spite of a few spelling errors I found the book easy to read, inspiring and helpful and am already seeing progress in my own life.
