The author takes us to a past with a real feel to theworld. We learn more about the Picts' history as it happens withJaelle, Breth, the clansmen, and even the druids. There are intrigues and power plays. Jaelle recognizes someone from her time... and it's not a good thing!
Jane Stain knows what she iswriting about and it shows. She loves her characters and it shows. She keeps you enthralled from the very beginning with the way she weavesthe story with wonderful characters. There are people who we are sureare good, there are those we are sure are the bad guys, and there arethose whose motives we can't be sure of at all!
While thebook can be categorized as a romance, it is definitely so much more. Inthis story, we are shown the continuing adventure of time travel tolearn more of true, living, breathing history... and we have theundercurrent of the druids' quest for more power. For me, this separates this book and series from the usual romance stories. Theromance is front and center, but it is not the "be all, end all" of this book. This is what keeps me wanting more -- there IS more!
The authorhas created a different type of series, with time travel, action, adventure, humor, and romance. Her particular mixture has resulted in the type of intriguing story I enjoy most when I read. I love learningsomething new as I read. It's wonderful to learn about aculture as the story unfolds. I am so curious to see what Ms Stainhas to come -- for our time-traveling friends, their friends... and us!
With each book, I feel the series is becoming more substantial as itmoves along - I love it! Yes, I believe you should read this book andthis series.
