Heck it wasn’t even a guy! Well it was and it wasn’t. Weird right? So throughout the book with every new character we meet you immediately think “Oh it has to be him” or “It has to be her” And then the whole plot twist! Yes This same murdering couple gave birth to a child and gave that child up, left her right at the police station’s door! And duh. It had to Renee. Who Nani (Maile’s sister) has a fondness for and has agreed to step in when Allison, Renee’s adopted mom dies of cancer. See this whole circle thing? AMAZING!
Now I figured out who the male murdering counterpart was, before we were told, but I never figured out the woman, no matter how hard I tried. It wasn’t until she wrote that she married the murdering BF that it hit me, but by then the author had already given us the answers. So Thank you Mrs. Linda. I stayed awake ALL night just to find out who killed that sweet little girl. And I am still so mad. Crazy woman.
This book is set in Hawaii (DUH!) and with every descriation that Linda writes, it really puts you right there. The setting was just another amazing part to this book. The characters were all well rounded and very likeable (Minus the murders come on, and truthfully toward the end I kinda liked the male murdered GASP). Hank was probably my favorite. He, like Kaleo, is a protector. Makes sense since he is a cop, but its more than that. It’s like a deep down need to protect those he love, and since he loves Nani and she has been through so much already it makes since that he is always by her side.
Kaleo is one of those characters that you start out thinking you wouldn’t like, since the setting that you meet him in isn’t such a very nice one. He was in jail for tattooing someone’s butt. Yes that’s right people. Laugh it up because that is exactly what happened. Ah. But you would think that this man being a criminal and a rugged man, that you wouldn’t like him. But really Kaleo is a big teddy bear. Who is struggling to let go of the guilt he carries over Maile’s death and let people in. Its a struggle until he meets Jasmine and her boys. Then the walls fall.
Both Kaleo and Nani have overcome so much. Their sister goes missing (assumed dead), their father leaves, and then their mother dies of a broken heart. For these two to turn out to be who they are is amazing.
This one I give a 5 star to. The mystery part of the book alone is enough for a 5 star, throw in the details and characters and you have an amazing hit!
