I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to help their children be more independent, confident, and financially responsible. Also, anyone who wants a step by step plan to help make their home run more smooth, and organized. This is the best book I've read to date! Well done Jodie Norton
The hardest part has been letting my kids do the chores on their own without me hovering over them. I think it will be a lesson in Independence for the whole family. I love her printouts too. Very cute!
This system Jodie has built truly empowers the kids. They learn the value of hard work and get to experience the self-satisfaction of accomplishing goals. Lessons that are invaluable; especially when obtained while in their youth.
Moreover, the book will benefit you as well. As the parent, you shouldn't have to be doing every chore in the house. Implement this system and you'll find yourself teaching your kids how to scrub a toilet as opposed to just having to do it. The toilet may not be as sparkling clean when they're done with it, if you would have cleaned it, but hey, you're not eating off the toilet seat and you got at least one week's reprieve from toilet scrubbing.
Really, buying this book may end up being the best $12 you've ever spent. It really can change the atmosphere of your home--especially when it's chore day.
You can personalize so much of what is in the system that it works for every family. My husband and I couldn't agree on allowances but knew it was important for the kids to manage money. This book addressed both in a way that centered around work. YES! I am so glad I found something so practical and easy to follow while my kids are young.
You can add anything to the chore chart that matters to you. Anything you are willing to pay them for doing. We add a few life skills to their lists every month so they are capable (at that age) to change light bulbs for example. I encourage you to give it a try!
