[Read by Victor Bevine]

At long last, New York Times bestselling author R. A. Salvatore returns with one of fantasy's most beloved and enduring icons, the dark elf Drizzt Do'Urden, in an all-new trilogy full of swordplay, danger, and imaginative thrills.

Centuries ago, in the city of Menzoberranzan, the City of Spiders, the City of Drow, nestled deep in the unmerciful Underdark of Toril, a young weapon master earned a reputation far above his station or that of his poor house.

The greater nobles watched him, and one matron, in particular, decided to take him as her own. She connived with rival great houses to secure her prize, but that prize was caught for her by another, who came to quite enjoy the weapon master.

This was the beginning of the friendship between Zaknafein and Jarlaxle, and the coupling of Matron Malice and the weapon master who would sire Drizzt Do'Urden.

R. A. Salvatore reveals the Underdark anew through the eyes of Zaknafein and Jarlaxle-an introduction to the darkness that offers a fresh view of the opportunities to be found in the shadows and an intriguing prelude to the intriguing escapes that lie ahead in the modern-day Forgotten Realms. Here, a father and his son are reunited and embark on adventures that parallel the trials of centuries long past as the friends of old are joined by Drizzt, Hero of the North, trained by Grandmaster Kane in the ways of the monk.

But the scourge of the dangerous Lolth's ambitions remain, and demons have been foisted on the unwitting of the surface. The resulting chaos and war will prove to be the greatest challenge for all three.

Leominster, Massachusetts is known for four things: Johnny Appleseed, a thriving plastics industry, Robert Cormier, and New York Times bestselling author R.A. Salvatore. With over 20 million books sold worldwide, more than four dozen book and numerous game credits Salvatore has become one of the most important figures in modern epic fantasy.

A lifelong resident of Massachusetts, R.A. Salvatore, began writing shortly after receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Communications/Media from Fitchburg State College. He penned his first manuscript in 1982, in a spiral notebook, writing by candlelight while listening to Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk album.

Bob’s first published novel, "The Crystal Shard", was released in February of 1988. By 1990 his third book, "The Halfling’s Gem", had made the New York Times bestseller list.

Salvatore spends a good deal of time speaking to schools and library groups, encouraging people, particularly young people, to read. With the zeal of a religious convert, he talks about the virtues of reading and the ultimate appeal, “it is fun.” He remembers his return to reading when he was in college, “The blizzard of 1978 shut down my college for a week. My sister had given me a copy of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, which I read while house-bound. When I got back to school, I changed my major from math to communications.”

Salvatore makes his home in Massachusetts, with his wife, Diane and their two dogs, Ivan and Dexter. He spends his “free time” coaching and playing softball on a team made up of family and close friends. His gaming group still meets on Sunday nights to play games. Of late, they have been playing the new game R.A.designed with Bryan Salvatore and Geno Salvatore, "DemonWars: Reformation", a role-playing game set in the World of Corona.

He is currently working on more novels set in Corona for his DemonWars series.

Boring & Shallow

Boring & Shallow
My reading history essentially started with Drizzt books. And, up to a few years ago, I still would have liked this book. However, after one starts reading broader than the usual D&D fare, you begin to realize, really, how boring and self referential this stuff is. Half way through... trudging along... I really don’t think I can finish this book. I’ll try. But I feel like I’ve read this same story about 10 times by now. And, a note to the author and publisher and fair warning to any readers. Putting sexual promiscuity front and center, literally in every single chapter, does NOT make something "edgy" or even remotely interesting. It only makes the story shallow. Is that really all that someone, who has written like 50 books can come up with? Also, blatantly open, social justice political commentary makes this read anything but "timeless". In reality, it dates this material to a very specific point in time, reading like a Twitter feed that produces an easily forgettable book.

Like an old friend reunited - Drizzt fans rejoice! We have another chapter of our favorite Drow’s story. 😎. The story is as crisply written as ever and the immediate familiarity with the characters, relationships and world is like putting on a favorite pair of jeans or sweatshirt. The new stuff is just as compelling and fun to experience, as ever.

The standard for Drizzt stories is high (as precedent demands) and that quality benchmark is met if not exceeded.

Welcome home friends - prepare to enjoy another long awaited visit - ending far too quickly. Just the way we like it.

I now own every book Salvatore has written about Drizzt and The Companions! I’ve read the complete series and I’m hoping and praying there’s more to come, but if not, I’ve absolutely no complaints!

rec’d the book for kindle and devoured it in a day or so ...like someone addicted to METH-obaranzan lol.
it was a good read with some interesting personal conflicts that i look forward to see being explored in the next book.
I hope it comes out quickly!
There are lots of good fights & action scenes as the Companions and some old friends deal with this latest scourge from the Abyss.
Really enjoyed the flashbacks of Zak and Jarlaxle adding context to that relationship.
Also interesting take on how our hero combines his newly acquired monk disciples to augment his fighting style.
The only reason it didnt get 4 stars is I felt that the book should have been longer.. delve deeper into the many aspects of character development and conflicts ..publishers know they have a captive audience... to me its te difference between a good novel and an epic read that would scream netflix or hbo adaptation!

Salvatore, like Arthur Conan Doyle, is bound to his iconic hero for the rest of his writing career. He has tried to end the series two or three times, as yet the fans’ and publishers’ demand to keep the Legend of Drizzt alive is a burden beyond the writer’s personal choice.
This installment, called Timeless, begins to form a pre-prequel storyline of Jarlaxle and Zaknafein’s origins prior to he birth of Drizzt in the matriarchal distopia of Menzoberranzan the underdark city of the drow elves. This is reminiscent of the Homeland-Exile-Sojourn trilogy following the Halfling’s Gem trilogy as exposition of Drizzt’s origin. In the present time, new villains are developed alongside a family drama involving racial disapproval by Zaknafein of Cattie-Brie, a human wife to Drizzt the drow. The diary of Drizzt is minimized and more impactful as it asks important questions about community versus individual responsibility for self identity.
Salvatore’s grasp of Forgotten Realms expands and his cast of characters each have their own fan base. There is no way for him to cover all the characters with depth and create new characters. By the end of the book, there is significant danger to the main characters not really seen since the Hunter’s Blades Trilogy. The stage is set for an epic follow-up to Timeless. The reader is left on the edge of her or his seat and the anticipation of what could happen next sets the imagination on fire, like the fiery crack of Zaknafein’s plane ripping whip.

I can't describe the joy I had when I read that you were writing another Drizzt book. There are no words to explain how I am feeling because you did, so..... Thank you. I have followed Drizzt from the beginning. You have created a legendary person. A soul that I believe shares everyone struggle in life. Drizzt character is something to look upon and say "I need to be more like that". Good, kind and open hearted. Not judge mental and to find the courage to do what is right. We could all use a little bit of Drizzt in our lives. Now, to the book at hand. It was great! The father coming back. The relationship between father and son is in question. All of the battles and where is lloth I wonder. ;) If u like any of RA Salvatore books and your new to Drizzt, this is still a great read. I would recommend starting from the beginning of Drizzt story. That way you get the FULL experience. You will not regret it.
