Timeless: A Drizzt Novel (Generations Book 1) Kindle Edition
New York Times and USA Today Bestseller!
R. A. Salvatore returns with one of fantasy's most beloved and enduring icons, the dark elf Drizzt Do'Urden, in an all-new trilogy full of swordplay, danger, and imaginative thrills.
Centuries ago, in the city of Menzoberranzan, a young weapon master earned a reputation far above his station or that of his poor house.
Zaknafein.
The greater nobles watched him, and one powerful matron—Malice—decided to take him as her own. She connived with rival houses to secure her prize, but it was ultimately the roguish mercenary Jarlaxle who caught him.
Thus sparked the birth of two key moments in Drow history: the coupling of a noble and a weapon master that would produce Drizzt Do’Urden . . .and the friendship between Zaknafein and Jarlaxle.
Spanning two eras, this unlikely pair takes on the intrigue and opportunities to be found in the shadows, providing a fascinating prelude to the journeys that have shaped the modern-day Forgotten Realms, while Zaknafein and his son Drizzt will be joined together in a series of trials that parallel those of centuries long past, even though their paths no longer seem to be aligned. How will a father, so long constrained by the vicious and conservative society of the drow, be able to reconcile his ingrained prejudices with the world and companions of his enlightened son?
The answer lies in their desire for peace over chaos. And as long as the scourge of the goddess Lolth’s ambitions still remains, both father and son are determined to keep her dark will at bay. But the Spider Queen is powerful, and now demons have been unleashed on the unwitting denizens of the surface world. United in purpose—and through their mutual friendship with Jarlaxle—Zaknafein and Drizzt will need to put aside their differences in order to keep the ones they love safe.

For the greatest teaching of the monks of the Yellow Rose is the ability to forgive, wholly, your own shortcomings, to accept your physical being as a vessel to a spirit ever seeking perfection. Readers will find pure, often heart-racing enjoyment as they are drawn into Salvatore's beautifully crafted world.
-- "Publishers Weekly (starred review)"He really does deliver the thrills and spills, the battles and swordplay, the jolly banter amid dreadful danger, and the hissing, clawing, chortling, tooth-grinding malice of the villains. Salvatore fans will rejoice.
-- "Kirkus Reviews"This first book of a new trilogy sets Drizzt and his allies up for the fight of their lives, with the tendrils of Lolthian chaos stretching throughout the Realms.

About the author

Leominster, Massachusetts is known for four things: Johnny Appleseed, a thriving plastics industry, Robert Cormier, and New York Times bestselling author R.A. Salvatore. With over 20 million books sold worldwide, more than four dozen book and numerous game credits Salvatore has become one of the most important figures in modern epic fantasy.
A lifelong resident of Massachusetts, R.A. Salvatore, began writing shortly after receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Communications/Media from Fitchburg State College. He penned his first manuscript in 1982, in a spiral notebook, writing by candlelight while listening to Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk album.
Bob’s first published novel, "The Crystal Shard", was released in February of 1988. By 1990 his third book, "The Halfling’s Gem", had made the New York Times bestseller list.
Salvatore spends a good deal of time speaking to schools and library groups, encouraging people, particularly young people, to read. With the zeal of a religious convert, he talks about the virtues of reading and the ultimate appeal, “it is fun.” He remembers his return to reading when he was in college, “The blizzard of 1978 shut down my college for a week. My sister had given me a copy of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, which I read while house-bound. When I got back to school, I changed my major from math to communications.”
Salvatore makes his home in Massachusetts, with his wife, Diane and their two dogs, Ivan and Dexter. He spends his “free time” coaching and playing softball on a team made up of family and close friends. His gaming group still meets on Sunday nights to play games. Of late, they have been playing the new game R.A.designed with Bryan Salvatore and Geno Salvatore, "DemonWars: Reformation", a role-playing game set in the World of Corona.
He is currently working on more novels set in Corona for his DemonWars series.

The standard for Drizzt stories is high (as precedent demands) and that quality benchmark is met if not exceeded.
Welcome home friends - prepare to enjoy another long awaited visit - ending far too quickly. Just the way we like it.
it was a good read with some interesting personal conflicts that i look forward to see being explored in the next book.
I hope it comes out quickly!
There are lots of good fights & action scenes as the Companions and some old friends deal with this latest scourge from the Abyss.
Really enjoyed the flashbacks of Zak and Jarlaxle adding context to that relationship.
Also interesting take on how our hero combines his newly acquired monk disciples to augment his fighting style.
The only reason it didnt get 4 stars is I felt that the book should have been longer.. delve deeper into the many aspects of character development and conflicts ..publishers know they have a captive audience... to me its te difference between a good novel and an epic read that would scream netflix or hbo adaptation!
This installment, called Timeless, begins to form a pre-prequel storyline of Jarlaxle and Zaknafein’s origins prior to he birth of Drizzt in the matriarchal distopia of Menzoberranzan the underdark city of the drow elves. This is reminiscent of the Homeland-Exile-Sojourn trilogy following the Halfling’s Gem trilogy as exposition of Drizzt’s origin. In the present time, new villains are developed alongside a family drama involving racial disapproval by Zaknafein of Cattie-Brie, a human wife to Drizzt the drow. The diary of Drizzt is minimized and more impactful as it asks important questions about community versus individual responsibility for self identity.
Salvatore’s grasp of Forgotten Realms expands and his cast of characters each have their own fan base. There is no way for him to cover all the characters with depth and create new characters. By the end of the book, there is significant danger to the main characters not really seen since the Hunter’s Blades Trilogy. The stage is set for an epic follow-up to Timeless. The reader is left on the edge of her or his seat and the anticipation of what could happen next sets the imagination on fire, like the fiery crack of Zaknafein’s plane ripping whip.
