A friend of mine is planning a ski vacation to coincide with her husband's 50th birthday next year. I picked up this book to see what an independent recommendation would be for US, Canadian and Italian ski resorts. For novice skiers there's good information on equipment and safety. For experienced skiers who want a "high end" ski vacation experience this is a great book. Michelle lists recommended resorts by country and gives details on the skiing, average snowfall, the hills and level of difficulty, the amenities and the luxury hotels in the area. There's also information about dining, spa treatments and other activities in addition to skiing. This book is going to be very helpful!

This is a very slim pamphlet that just restates the basic marketing info one can easily find on each resort or hotel web site. Just 2 hotels/resort without any critique. No maps, no practical info, no value. You can get a lot more info for free online from the telegraph.co.uk Ski Resort Guide (google it) or buy their book Where to Ski and Snowboard

There is also a lot more free info to be found on TripAdvisor.com . Comments on snow-forecast.com are also quite good. Bottom line, save your money!

Very practical book! I was looking for some quick overview of the most known luxury resorts and the accommodations in those areas and this book has it all. The resorts are divided by region (US, Canada, Italy, Austria, etc.) which is very useful, as you can browse just through the ones you are curious about. Plus it also gives very good information on the areas around the resorts and the hotels/chalets, each with their particular characteristic. The author talks about the uniqueness of the rooms in certain hotels and how the food served at the Hotel "Tannehof" is always a six courses dinner. Pretty neat detail! I found this book very useful.

This little guide offers a glimpse into some of the finest ski resorts on the planet. Though not an exhaustive resource, skiing enthusiasts will have an easy reference as they plan their next skiing adventure. As someone who who enjoys hitting the slopes a couple times each winter, I'm especially interested in what Aspen has to offer after reading this section, especially since my wife and I live less than 3 hours away. From the lodging and entertainment offerings in each resort area to the actual slopes themselves, I highly recommend this guide as a reference for skiers of all levels!

I'm planning the family getaway for 2014, and skiing is one of our options. Although there are plenty of websites offering amazing advice, it does tend to be biased towards packages the site itself is offering - so that's why I started looking for independent guides to ski resorts. Michelle's guide fits the bill perfectly, and doesn't just concentrate on US and Canadian resorts, as other books do. To a skiing novice such as myself, every bit of advice is gladly received, and there is plenty in here - everything from where to eat, where to stay, what to wear, who to teach you and how to book your ski trip is detailed in here.

As a very novice skier and looking for some get away ideas for this winter season I stumbled upon this guide. Although it lists ski resorts I may not go to anytime soon only because they are outside the U.S. and require a lot more planning and preparation then time allows right now (like Austria, France, Italy, Switzerland.. which all sound really fun!) my focus was on the U.S. destinations.

Since I've only skied locally where I live, the places and descriptions where very helpful. Though the ones mentioned are not "local" they are still doable with planning (like Aspen or Jackson Hole which sounds really neat). I'm sure there must be many more and I kind of wish the author would come out with a U.S. (only) ski resort guide.

I found the tips/reminders helpful too.. some of them are obvious (gloves, hat, etc) but others were not (like swimwear! might not have thought of that one), and of course sunblock. I've seen too many friends come back with "raccoon eyes" after a ski trip.

Overall a very quick and short read, but something easy to refer back to when you're just starting your ski vacation and need some ideas on where to visit the best luxury ski resorts.
