Awesome additional features include:
-- white background instead of dark green, making it MUCH easier to see from afar, from an angle, and in low light
-- you can REMOVE unwanted modes, such as the timer or 2 of the 3 alarms, so that you don't have to cycle through them every time (you can turn them back on if needed obviously)
-- a little more compact, which feels nice
The ONLY thing is that the new band design, which consists of a loop that fits into a hole on the opposite side, is ultimately not as reliable as just the basic loop. I do find that the new loop comes off more than I'd like (maybe once a week or less).
Awesome watch! I kind of want to buy 3 of them!
Learning how to setup the watch should be no problem if you’re no stranger to the older Timex Ironman watches. Even if you’re not familiar, it is pretty intuitive and the instructions are well written. We travel to Asia fairly often, so the functionality of being able to check 3 different time zones is extremely convenient. Not much to say about the chronograph functionality, very simple and straightforward to use. I use it every time I work out. Same with the timer functionality, very simple and straightforward with countdown stop and countdown repeat options. Indiglo is awesome to have as always. Great way to discretely check the time if you’re at a movie or something (instead of a glaring smartphone screen). I don’t really use the alarms since the chime isn’t too loud. Wouldn’t wake me up if I’m in a deep sleep. I let my iPhone do the waking up for me. The Occasions functionality is nice, but I don’t use it. That’s another job I leave to my iPhone. Haven’t replaced the battery yet since the current one is still going strong.
I have to be careful with the band. Prolonged exposure to the sun will weaken it and will cause it to start cracking. And with constant putting on and taking off the watch, the cracks will get deeper until the band eventually breaks. I know this from experience with my previous Ironman watch. And I’ll tell you, replacing the band is a pain in the butt. However, for this to happen, it needs a lot of constant exposure to the sun. My old band broke because at the time I swam outdoors for about an hour 5 days a week. I’ve had no problem with this band on my current Watch of 3 years.
In summary this is a great watch. Highly dependable, with very good functionality, and affordable (I bought mine at $30). Highly recommended.
Besides being useful, the watch has been reliable. After nearly a year of use, it has been problem free and looks pretty near new. The band is comfortable and the profile is such that it doesn't hang up on your sleeve or catch on things too easily. The display is a big improvement over my last watch of this sort. It is easy enough for my old eyes to read, even while running. Finally, the watch cost a third of what my previous watch cost. It is water resistant, but not matter proof. My last watch could be worn SCUBA diving, but not this one. With that exception, the watch has been a significant upgrade for a much lower price.
