This thing survived one of the tougher schools the Marine Corps had to offer at Camp Pendleton. Other students' watches (even expensive watches that were designed solely for military toughness) were getting smashed, destroyed, falling apart. One person went through multiple G-Shock watches (known as the de-facto "tough" military watch), spending a lot of money just to keep a watch on his wrist.
This thing put up with all of it no problem and barely got a little scratched up. Still even looks halfway decent. Still using it.
EDIT: a while later and I've still watched yet more g-shock and other "tough" and "military grade" watches come and go (i.e. break and die) on other Marines. This one I've worn every time we've gone to the field or done PT and it is still going strong. Honestly the toughest watch I've ever seen. I could not be more happy with it. Still doesn't even look like it's been seriously used...just looks like a normal watch.
The watch is lightweight, small and doesn't bring much irritation to my wrist as some others have. I have small wrists and this is a great fit. The backlighting is decent - my only note is I wished the numbers illuminated as the contrast doesn't really work for me.
**UPDATE To my review** as of 2/12/2015
Just wanted to add that the watch still works and functions fine after being tumbled around during a Tough Mudder and being immersed in water and mud. However, I did notice how fragile the face was. Definitely a more plastic material than a hard glass as it scratches way too easily. Also their is a notche at the end of the strap which is supposed to catch such that the excess doesn't flop around. This itself is loose and no matter how hard I try, it manages to slip out and the extra strap flaps around.
I also fount out that the BEEP for each and every button press cannot be disabled! yeaaahhhh... super annoying!
