The picture on this listing shows a child running through the sprinkler and the words "Water Resistant" underneath the image. In that exact situation, my sons watch died.
The description says the following: "Water resistant to 30 m (99 ft): In general, withstands splashes or brief immersion in water, but not suitable for swimming." This doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me -- water resistant to 99 feet but not suitable for swimming?
So, maybe it's my fault because I didn't read the directions well enough until after the second one died, but I'm surprised that a Timex can't take water... especially a "water resistant Timex."
Anyway, the first one died when my son was playing in the park sprinklers. Not immersed at all. I figured it was a fluke and since he liked the watch I ordered another one. (Meanwhile, I did the trick of putting the watch in a ziploc filled with rice and it started working again.) The second one he did wear in the pool and it completely died.
So although it does say "not suitable for swimming" on the listing, this watch is not recommended because kids get wet, they splash, they play. This watch can not handle that.
1. The elastic band is nice, because you can slip the watch on and off of your wrist easily.
2. The case is made of tough plastic and also has a stainless steel back.
3. The watch features a stopwatch, alarm, and timer.
1. The Indiglo started going out soon after I got the watch.
2. Then, after an accidental drop of about 6 inches, it died. :(
This is why I now have a Timex Ironman.
Also, the buttons for setting it are a little too easy to manipulate. I like the idea that a kid can do it, but it's too easy to just bump accidentally and end up pushing buttons without meaning to.
I kind of like the elastic band, as it will grow with my son. However, I'm starting to wish I'd bought a standard watch with holes and a buckle.
Still, for a starter watch, it is not bad, but I will be looking for something better quality for my son in the future.
When we first got it, I did sew the band together at the right size for him so that the fabric wouldn't slip through the metal and off of his arm (get lost). This worked perfectly! The band did stretch out over time and I was almost about to resew/resize it since it had stretched out...and then it broke. I have no problem paying $15 for this because of the true love that my son has for this watch. Because he loves it so much, he has learned a lot about time and staying on schedule since we first got it for him so... it is an unbeatable learning tool!!
The hook-and-loop band (i.e. Velcro) works quite well. It offers a wide range of adjustment for many wrist sizes - with our kids, we could easily adjust it to fit outside of a coat or jacket.
The watch has many modes and features - total overkill for a young audience, but we were unable to find other simpler digital options and our kids aren't quite ready for analog watches yet. Hopefully soon!
In the meantime, these are great little units, and a good value for the money.
