Ting GSM SIM card
Bring your unlocked phone to a better home
Ting is offered with the simple premise that people tend to pay too much for mobile phone service. By buying into bloated or Unlimited plans, people are buying more than they need to and wasting a lot each month. The industry calls it 'breakage.' we call it crazy. With Ting, you don't pick a plan. Instead, you just use your phone as you want to and at the end of the month, you pay for what you used. Each month, the counters reset to 0 and you start Fresh.
Read on to learn how Ting is different from every other cell phone company out there.
- On Ting, you only pay for the usage levels you reach each month
- Nationwide coverage on a GSM network
- Unlimited phones in one manageable account
- No minimums, maximums or other mums
- Account tools that put you in control
Features and Benefits of Ting
Ting rates adjust to you
Use fewer than 500 text messages, pay for fewer than 500 text messages. Use no voice minutes, don't pay for any voice minutes. Use less than 1 GB of mobile data, well, you get the idea.
We put you in control
The Ting account dashboard and the Ting mobile app put you in control of your account. Set optional alerts or limits for individual phones or for your account as a whole so you'll never get a shock.
Our customers actually like us
How's this for different? Our customers and the press consistently say nice things to say about us. We're especially proud of the reviews we've earned here.
A few things you need to know about Ting
No online top-ups, no prepaid cards, no expiring balances. You and your family just use your phones and at the end of the month, we bill the credit card we have on file. Simple is good.
Voicemail, caller ID, call forwarding, calling and conferencing are all included. Ting only collects the taxes and fees we're legally required to hand over; no recovery or other silly fees.
Perfect for families
Usage is pooled and all your phones are managed in one simple account. You can set usage limits on individual phones or on your whole account so you can avoid unpleasant surprises.

Firstly, it takes forever to activate,
Secondly, I have not even used 1 GB of data, I have not made any calls, I haven’t texted anyone, I have used 778 Mb and my charges are already on $47.03..
I accidentally turned my phone off of airplane mode when I was in Bermuda, I got 4 Whatsapp messages and it charged me $25.03 for that...
The internet is slow and it takes for ever.
I personally wouldn’t buy this product again
Now.. if I can have my wife use this service ....!! Well that is a whole new battle... which I know I cannot win.
Rating with five stars!
I’ve used ting for over a year now and saved a lot of money. Average bill price comes to about $20 vs the $45 bill from my previous provider. This is usually the lowest tiers of talk, text and data.
Never once dropped a call, missed a text, or struggled for data. The GSM/CDMA option is a huge perk, however, it would be an absolute game changer if the two could be utilized simultaneously on one device.
Personally, I think the tiers should get an upgrade. The lowest tier of talk should end at 500 minutes, lowest tier of text 500 and lowest tier of data at 500mb, totaling to $17/month after taxes.
The provider I am looking at, spectrum mobile, has 1gb, unlimited talk/text for $17 after taxes. Other MVNOs such as wing mobile also offers unlimited talk/text and 500mb for $17. Mint mobile offers unlimited talk/text and 5gb data for $20/month. Quite the bang for the buck.
So far, ting has been good for me, but the tiers are beginning to become outdated.
I am not a resident of the USA but had to travel there for 6 months for work. I wanted to obtain a US phone number for verification processes related to my bank.
So I bought a Ting sim card.
Turns out that the activation of the sim card requires you to make an account on their website. Fine for me.
However what blows my mind is that they require a contact number to create the account, and that contact number doesn't accept any other format than US numbers.
So I need an already working US number to activate my sim card that I bought precisely to get a US number.
I contacted customer support about the situation. Long story short, they suggested me to first get a US contact number through other means (friends, other messaging apps) then modify my account information (contact number) once the account is created.
So as of now, I still can't activate my sim card, I wasted my time and money and all activation guides on the official help.ting website fail to mention this required "contact number". Even the screenshots on the website from the "Activating with a new Ting number" page, updated January 31 2019, do not have that "contact number" box, even though it is clearly there if you open a new tab.
