So much fun for a crafty, animal-loving child
I thought someone had hijacked my amazon account when I saw this purchase. In a state of panic, I called my husband and said, "Is there any chance you ordered a ridiculous book about putting hats on cats?" I could not believe it when he answered, "Sure did." Why, oh why, would my educated, intelligent, tough-guy husband buy anything so insanely froofy? In his words, "Chloe will love it." Well, of course. There has to be an intersecting point for a man who loves to play with farm equipment and his ten year old daughter. They both love animals. I took the whole thing with some level of tolerance. I had no idea what was about to happen in my house. My daughter didn't just like looking at the hats. She wanted to make them. She spent hours following the instructions in the book. She made every single hat. She and her big brother even adjusted the instructions to make a paper top hat in his size. Of course, this was an investment. She needed paper, ribbon, a compass, jewel stickers...she even cut up an old bathroom rug to make baubles. She spent hours making the hats and further hours torturing the cats in an attempt to get cute pictures. She didn't need help to make the designs, and they really didn't require much to make. But she had a fantastic time and loved showing friends and neighbors her millinery shop whenever they happened over. We even attached alligator clips to some so she could wear them like barrettes. All in all, it was great fun and an excellent purchase.

I am a Shelter Manager at a no-kill Cat Shelter in Boston. I’ve been making some of these hats for our residents and having photo shoots to help them get adopted. A few months ago we had a stray cat that we named Sherlock. There was no way I was going to pass up on that opportunity! He was adopted and I sent him home with the Sherlock hat that I made for him. I especially enjoy making the tiniest hats for wee tiny baby kittens.
My only complaint is that I haven’t found the best tape to use!

Use washi tape and stickers for straight lines and embellishments!

My daughter's been wanting this book and she finally rec'd it for Christmas!! She LOVES it ! And our cats LOVE their new hats !! Latte is ecstatic to be a hat model ! There's a variety of hats to create and all are easily made by a 13yo with cardstock, scissors and a hot glue gun

I really liked my first attempt which was the witch hat. I tried doing the snapback and struggled a little.

Love Adam Ellis's comic and his tiny hats on cats. I bought this as a birthday present for myself and it definitely delivered! Some of the instructions are a bit vague but if you make the hat more than once you can generally get it correct. I am terrible at crafty things and was able to figure it out.
