Our 15 week old had enjoyed this toy since the day it arrived. Before she was reaching, she enjoyed looking at "the baby in the turtle's belly." It was this toy that encouraged her to reach. It is now encouraging her attempts at rolling. We rearrange the toys often and it's easy to do.
Although it sounds strange, the Gymini also makes a wonderful setting for baby photos. You can get on the floor and take photos of the baby playing or stand over it and get pictures of those early smiles (when she's distracted by toys and not your camera). Also the colorful background is very cute in photos. Probably not thought of as a selling point but it's true ;)
It also keeps my baby's interest for plenty of time for me to put in a load of laundry, have lunch, etc. It's easily stored in a small amount of space (unlike the few other large-scale toys she has) and since we have a dog, it's nice to have a play mat that stays clean of pet treat crumbs and dog hair.
I would recommend this as a toy to buy either before the baby comes or shortly after. There aren't many toys suitable from birth but this is a great one.

The best part about this toy is that it forces you to clear out a bit of space in the playroom. I mean, I get tired of tripping over toys as much as the next parent, but I'm far too lazy to clean them up.
Then your relatives buy this toy for you and you think, "hey, maybe my infant would enjoy this". Which is a good thing, because if you yourself enjoyed it, I'd start to wonder.
But of course the playroom floor is a mess, so you have to make room, which then devolves into actually *putting toys where they belong*. Gasp. And before you know it, the playroom is clean for the first time in weeks, the kid is screaming because she's being ignored, and you're ready to lay out this playmat.
And so you do. And she bats at the toys for a minute or so. And then she gets bored. Or hungry. Or both.
But, hey, at least the playroom is clean.

We received this toy as a shower gift and it has served us well. I have washed it several times & the color still looks decent though it has faded a little. It is easy to assemble and move around from room to room, or take to day care or grandparents' house.
As a newborn, my son was overwhelmed by this toy, so we used the playmat without the arches. At three months he enjoyed the hanging toys and would bat at them with his hands and feet. I like the flexibility of the arches - you can move around the included toys or add others very easily. The versatile, component nature of the toy also extends the age range for which it is appropriate. Even crawling babies can use it as a destination and resting spot. Our son especially loves the crinkly paper noise of one of the portholes.
Our most happy discovery with this toy was that it's great for the beach. It folds up and is light and easy to sling over your shoulder while toting all your gear. Once we got settled with our family blanket and beach umbrella, we assembled the playmat and topped the arches with an open weave afghan. Our son played in his little "tent" and stayed cool, out of the sun, and safe while we enjoyed our day at the beach. It was a great solution for all of us.
I highly recommend this toy. As a final note, our little musical seahorse does not play "Old MacDonald" as the copy above says. It's an unrecognizable but happy little tune and 8 months later I'd still listen to it over & over, which is quite an accomplishment for children's music.

This playmat is entertaining, washable, and portable! The toys are fun hanging up to bat at for the tiny babies and down on the floor to play with for the older babies. This was my little guy's main entertainment until he was old enough for a saucer and he still enjoyed it for floor time after that. The toys are repositionable and I have thrown them in with the laundry whenever they need a wash. The unit comes apart for easy cleaning of the mat as well and the whole thing folds up easily for storage or visiting.

after reading the wonderful reviews submitted by scores of people on these playmats...i went out and purchased one for my 3 1/2 month old----the first five minutes were great!!! it seemed as if we had gotten him heaven on a mat, but then, then came the crying. you see this is a wonderful toy for a baby who does not like to be held all the time. it is great if your infant is use to lying down and entertaining himself. my baby will play with the toys, sitting up---and since he's not old enough to sit yet by himself---guess who ends up having to play with him----??? so i have decided to now get him one of those stationary entertainers---let's see how that works.

I like this toy. It was bought for my son before he was born. He is now 4 mths old and enjoys to look at it and kick at the toys. I do wish two things were different. I wish the fabric they lay on was thicker, it is really thin and putting them on the floor makes it uncomfortable. I have noticed if you put it in the middle of the bed it is more comfortable and my son will play longer. I recommend doing this with 100% supervision of course. I also wish that they made the snaps that keep the two archs together was more efficent, it very rarely stays snapped. However, overall my son likes it.

We bought this play gym for my daugter when she was 3 months old. My only regret is that we didn't get it sooner! I'ts big and fun! My daughter loved all the creatures hanging about!It's easy to tote and easy to wash(you can't put it in the dryer,but I never found it a problem because the material dries really fast). Now that my daughter is almost 6 months old, she does not want to be lying on her back anymore. So my only advice ..to get the most use..get it before or soon after your baby is born! Good buy!:)
