This first children's book by Ms. McCullough has bright illustrations and engaging rhyme. The main character, John Allen, wrestles with the monotony of attending school versus the freedom of summer, but finally comes to realize that summertime and school time have both good and not-so-good aspects, and he can enjoy life during both times. This is a great lesson in growing up.

The rhyming texts made this book fun to read for younger children who share the same dilemma with John Allen. This serves as an excellent tool in the classroom for beginning readers. I'm sure teachers are thankful for another Dicy McCullough book. We clamor for more.

Tired of School. Who hasn't heard a youngster say something like this? This wonderful read-along book uses colorful illustrations and rhyming to teach K-2 students about the joys of learning. John Allen and his lovable dog, Louie - continued from Dicy McCullough's first book, Tired of My Bath, are characters that children identify with. The book addresses routine and rules which make for great discussion with children, as well.

Tired of School is a wonderful book little kids will really enjoy. It is easy to read and fun with its smooth flowing rhythm and rhyme. John Allen, the main character, is a thoughtful little boy who weighs the pros and cons about having to go to school and decides that school isn't so bad after all.

Dicy McCullough is an up and coming children's author, and this picture book about John Allen (reads like a song, doesn't it?) is adorable. The prose is lyrical and the artwork simple and perfect for the age group. Nice colors. Love the size of the book and the large font. That's great both for the reader and the child for work with. Nice job on a first release.

Dicy McCullough's second foray into the world of children's books is another hit! John Allen is an engaging character who learns the life lessons of childhood in a brilliantly colored, yet totally recognizable world. Most children should be able to identify with him as he wrestles with whether school or summer break holds the most attraction for him. An excellent way to begin a conversation with your pre-schooler, or with a child who is not looking forward to that first day of school.
Great gift idea for moms or teachers of children that age!
