Emphatically, yes in this case.
I heard a very brief interview with the author on the BBC - ironically while lying awake in the middle of the night. I scribbled down the best phonetic approximation of her name I could manage and through the miracle of the internet tracked down and bought this book the next morning.
Even more ironically, one of the first bits of advice I read in the book was not to listen to anything engaging or potentially upsetting - like BBC news radio - while trying to get to sleep. When you think about it - duh, of course.
I'm only about a third of the way through the book - it's a very detailed read condensing a great deal of professional expertise and I want to read it carefully. But by following the advice I've read - and there's a lot more to come - I've already gone from fairly terrible sleep to ok sleep. I may not be bursting with energy yet, but I'm no longer dragging myself through the day like a zombie either.
One of the things I'd never really considered before hearing the author on the BBC is that hours of sleep are not always the most important measure - the issue of how well you sleep is often as critical or more critical than how long you sleep.
As I said, I'm only partway through the book, but even in the unlikely event that the rest of the book is completely useless, I've already gotten far more than my money's worth out of this book. Ms. Ramlakhan truly knows what she's talking about.
Update: The overall thrust of this book involves changing habits which sabotage good sleep. It's not an instant solution because changing habits takes time.Read more ›
